Monthly Reads: January 2019

Posted February 5, 2019 by Casee in Features, Giveaways | 12 Comments

Casee: I started off the year strong, reading/listening to 11 books. That is so much better than a year ago when I only read two books.

Here are the books that I read in January:

Evidence of Desire by Lexi Blake | 4 out of 5
Dirty English by Ilsa Madden-Mills (audiobook) | 3 out of 5
Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan | 4.5 out of 5
Filthy English by Ilsa Madden-Mills (audiobook) | 2 out of 5
Wanderlust by Lauren Blakely (audiobook) | 4.25 out of 5
Toxic Game by Christine Feehan | 3.75 out of 5
Mastered by Maya Banks | 3.75 out of 5
Part-Time Lover by Lauren Blakely (audiobook) | 4.25 out of 5
Dominated by Maya Banks | 3.5 out of 5
Fireworks by Sarina Bowen (audiobook) | 4.5 out of 5
Kept by Maya Banks | 3.75 out of 5

My favorite books of this month were Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan (a new-to-me author) and Fireworks by Sarina Bowen. I love listening to Sarina Bowen’s books on audio. The narrators are always stellar. I also listened to two Lauren Blakely books on audio, which are on the top of my list. My least favorite of the month was Filthy English by Ilsa Madden-Mills (another new-to-me author). I’m not sure if I’ll read anything by her again. She’s not for me.

Holly: I read/listened to 20 books in January. I feel like I’m reading a lot less than I am. Part of it is that I have very little reading time right now, so I’m reading books in stops and starts, instead of all in one sitting like I normally do. Let’s hope things are better in February.

Charming by Dannika Dark (audio) | 3.25 out of 5
Three Little Words by Jenny Holiday | 3.5 out of 5
Never Deal with Dragons (audio) | 3.0 out of 5
Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh (reread) | 4.5 out of 5
Rock Chick Reawakening (reread) (audio) | 4.25 out of 5
Jace by Kenzie Cox (audio) | 3.5 out of 5
Aiden by Kenzie Cox (audio) | 3.25 out of 5
Luc by Kenzie Cox (audio) | 3 out of 5
Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood (reread) (audio) | 4.5 out of 5
The Wedding by Julie Garwood (reread) (audio) | 4.5 out of 5
Drawn Together by Lauren Dane (reread) (audio) | 4.25 out of 5
The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner (audio) | 2.75 out of 5
The Good Ones by Jenn McFinlay | 3.5 out of 5
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper (audio) | 3.75 out of 5
From Scotland with Love by Kelli Ireland (audio) | DNF
Highland Guard by Hannah Howell (audio) | 3.5 out of 5
Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder | 3.5 out of 5
Gimme Some Sugar by Molly Harper | 4 out of 5
Fierce Obsessions by Suzanne Wright | 3 out of 5
Ready to Were by Robyn Peterman (audio) | DNF

My favorite read of the month was How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper, with an honorable mention to Tikka Chance on Me. My least favorites were Ready to Were by Robyn Peterman and From Scotland with Love by Kelli Ireland. Both were over-the-top full of camp, and I had to DNF them.

Rowena: I’m shooting for 150 books read this year and in order to reach that lofty goal, I have to average about 13 books per month. In January, I read 14 books so…yeah, I’m off to a good start.

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne (eARC) | 4 out of 5
Holiday Hoops (Hoops #2.5) by Kennedy Ryan (eBook) | 4.25 out of 5
Governess Gone Rogue (Dear Lady Truelove #3) by Laura Lee Guhrke (eARC) | 4 out of 5
Right Where I Want You by Jessica Hawkins (eBook) | 3.75 out of 5
The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner (eBook) | 2.5 out of 5
Blood Kiss (Black Dagger Legacy #1) by J.R. Ward (eBook) | 4 out of 5
One and Only (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #1) by Jenny Holiday (eBook) | 4.5 out of 5
It Takes Two (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #2) by Jenny Holiday (eBook) | 4.75 out of 5
Merrily Ever After (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #2.5) by Jenny Holiday (eBook) | 4.75 out of 5
Three Little Words (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #3) by Jenny Holiday (eARC) | 4.5 out of 5
From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata (Audiobook) | 4.25 out of 5
Thirty Day Boyfriend by Whitney G. (Audiobook) | 3.5 out of 5
Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss by Kasie West (eARC) | 3.75 out of 5
The Scoundrel in Her Bed (Sins for All Season #3) by Lorraine Heath (eARC) | 5 out of 5

My favorite book of the month goes to The Scoundrel in Her Bed (Sins for All Season #3) by Lorraine Heath. Man, Lorraine Heath is really bringing her A-game with this series. Each book has been heartbreaking and beautiful and Finn’s book was no different. I absolutely adored it and cannot wait for Aiden’s book..and Beast and Fancy’s. I love how each book revolves around a main theme but are uniquely different. I just…gah. I loved it.

My least favorite read of the month goes to The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner. It wasn’t the read I was hoping it to be and though I’m not going to give up on the author, this book was a bit of a disappointment to me.

I haven’t read that many books yet this year so my re-read of Lisa Kleypas’ Cold Hearted Rake and Marrying Winterborne are my best reads so far. Also starting the IAD series from Kresley Cole for the first time but haven’t finished a book yet.

  2. Kim

I just finished Hot Asset and Hard Sell by Lauren Layne. Both were very good books. I didn’t have a least favorite in January.

  3. Kareni

It sounds as though you all started the year off well.

I most enjoyed my reread of SK Dunstall’s Linesman series. I tried but did not finish – Stars Now Unclaimed. City of Broken Magic. Girl from Everywhere. Companion to Wolves. Mirror Empire. There was nothing wrong with any of them, they just weren’t what I was looking for at the time.

  4. Jana Leah

My favorite was Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost & my least favorite was The Librarian by Christy Sloat (still enjoyed it tho).

  5. Glenda M

I really enjoyed Governess Gone Rogue (Lady Truelove series) by Laura Lee Guhrke and Jill Shalvis’s Playing for Keeps! I started January working my way through the last of the Christmas anthologies that I purchased. I think I said it before, I must hate myself for not DNFing that one….

  6. You are really killed it in January! I think I read/listened to 11 books which is excellent for me. My favorites were Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan and Verity by Colleen Hoover. Least favorite was probably The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan. It wasn’t bad, it was just… okay.

My favorite book for the month was How to Live an Undead Lie by Hailey Edwards. This is book 5 in the series and I’ve loved every book so far. My least favorite was Never a Gentleman by Eileen Dreyer. I’ve been trying to tackle some of my older TBRs, but I’m finding that books that I picked up several years ago don’t necessarily match my current reading preferences.

  8. Laura

My favorite one was The Minimalist Home. I’ve only had the chance to read a few thus-far this year, but enjoyed them all, so I don’t have a “least favorite”.
