WAYR-New

Casee: I am reading Vengeance Road by Christine Feehan. I really did enjoy Judgement Road which is the first book in the series. Torpedo Ink is a gritty spin-off of Sisters of the Heart about a motorcycle club. If you like your men extremely alpha and the strong females that don’t let them get away with much, you’ll like this series. You don’t have to read Sisters of the Heart to start Torpedo Ink.

I’m also listening to Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh. When I started reading it last week, it was really slow. Holly mentioned that I should re-read Archangel’s Heart then go back to Archangel’s Prophecy. I did that and am really enjoying Archangel’s Prophecy the second time around.

Holly: I finished listening to Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs. Now I’m sad all over again that I have to wait for another book in this series. I love Mercy and her band of scary werewolves. I can’t wait to see what Briggs is going to do next. After that I started listening to Raven’s Shadow by Briggs, A little Night Magic by Lucy March and The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. I ended up DNF’ing all 3. I was enjoying Raven’s Shadow, but the world is a bit too complex for me to focus on in audio. That’s a book I’ll need to read. The heroine of A Little Night Magic was driving me crazy and nothing about the Stevens novel worked for me. After that I listened to Chased and Making Chase by Lauren Dane. It was nice returning to the town of Petal and catching up with Chase family.

I read Mornings on Main by Jodi Thomas, which was sweet, but slow and I finished Sleepover by Serena Bell, which I enjoyed. I DNF’d Malcolm and Isabel by Julie Anne Long. This started as an epilogue in The Legend of Lyon Redmond back in 2015. She just released their novella and I thought I’d love it. Sadly, it isn’t working for me. It doesn’t help that she doesn’t include the original epilogue, yet starts the novella right where it left off, which made for some confusing reading until I finally just went back and read the epilogue again.

I’m currently listening to The Christmas Cottage by Samantha Chase.

Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me. It was my birthday on Tuesday and I had all these plans to go home and snuggle down in bed with my kindle but those plans went out with window when my sister called me and asked if I wanted to go with her to my nieces basketball game in Costa Mesa. I will never say no to watching Meghan play. She won her game and played well so I was happy with how I spent my birthday.

I managed to finish Mornings on Main by Jodi Thomas and thought it was a slow romance but sweet. Maybe too sweet. After that, the only other book that I read and I read it in one sitting so you know it was good stuff, is Fall (VIP #3) by Kristen Callihan. I really love John Blackwood. So, so much. His heroine Stella was pretty fantastic too.

Now, I’m planning on starting the audiobook for Archangel’s Storm (Guild Hunter #5) by Nalini Singh and reading Save the Date by Carrie Aarons.

Will Fraser has believed in love at first sight since the day he first laid eyes on Mina Harper five years ago. There was only one problem: She was happily married. Then, when Mina's husband was killed by a drunk driver, Will figured she'd want nothing to do with a guy who owns a whiskey distillery. So he's kept his feelings locked away, knowing that not even a Christmas miracle would be enough to melt Mina's heart. . . Mina believes her days of true love are behind her. Since losing her husband she's kept to herself, content to do her own painting and stay out of the limelight that comes with her famous family. But when, after a freak accident, Will comes to her rescue, Mina can't quite get him out of her mind. As curiosity turns into a fling during Cloud Bay's first Christmas Festival, she finds it harder to convince herself that her feelings for Will are just mistletoe-inspired. Could Mina be ready to lay the past to rest and finally admit that what she really wants for Christmas--and forever--is Will?

I was out of town for my niece’s wedding, so here’s what I read two weeks ago ~

    — the novella The Tea Master and the Detective by Aliette de Bodard which proved to be an interesting read. Somehow I’d hoped for more, but I would try another work by the same author.
    — Martha Wells’ novella Rogue Protocol which is the third in The Murderbot Diaries.
    — Kelly Jensen’s contemporary romance novella Best in Show which was enjoyable though I don’t think I’ll be re-reading it in a hurry.
    — Jennifer Gracen’s contemporary romance It Might Be You (The Harrisons Book 5) . While this is the fifth book in the series, it’s the first I read and it stands alone well. That said, it took me two weeks to finish, so I didn’t find it that compelling.
    — the anthology Irregulars: Stories by Nicole Kimberling, Josh Lanyon, Ginn Hale, and Astrid Amara which I enjoyed.

And here’s what I read more recently ~

    These I quite liked:
Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren — this is a contemporary romance with a fun heroine.
Martha Well’s Exit Strategy — this is the final novella in the author’s Murderbot Diaries series.
Fortitude Smashed by Taylor Brooke — this is a male/male romance set in our world but with an interesting science fiction twist.
A Walk Between Stars by Tyler Parsons — this is a science fiction short story in which a man is rescued by aliens after the destruction of his space ship. It is a mystery.
On Basilisk Station (which is currently free for Kindle readers) plus The Honor of the Queen (Honor Harrington books one and two) both by David Weber — these are military science fiction novels; I’ll happily read on in this series.
For my book group: I Will Send Rain by Rae Meadows — this was set in the depression era dust bowl and was admittedly depressing. I’m happy to have read it though, and we had a good discussion tonight.
These I found not terribly exciting: The IT Guy by Wynter St. Vincent and One Broke Girl by Rhonda Helms
I did not finish Carrots: A Shelby Nichols Adventure by Colleen Helme — this is the first in a cozy paranormal mystery series with an intriguing premise; however, I gave up after some thirty percent of the book as it was not speaking to me. Too bad.

    • Of all the books you mentioned, I’ve only read the Christina Lauren and I’m thrilled that you enjoyed it. I really loved that one too. I adored both Josh and Hazel. 🙂

I finished Sherry Thomas’ book, The Hollow of Fear, and enjoyed it. I haven’t started a new one yet.
