WAYR-New

Casee: I am currently reading Wildfire by Ilona Andrews. I am absolutely obsessed with this series. I adore Nevada Baylor. She is one of my top five all time favorite heroines. I love her almost (maybe even as much) as Elena Deveraux from Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. She is just so amazing. Strong willed, yet still soft around her family. She’s finally given in to Mad Rogan, but knows that she won’t lose herself. She’s a power in her own right and no one can take that away from her. I am also really enjoying getting to know more about Nevada’s sisters. Holly and Rowena tell me that Wildfire is better than White Hot so I am so excited to read this book.

I am also listening to Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne on audio. My new favorite website/app is Audible. I am loving audio books! Given, I’ve only listened to five or so books, but it is still nice to listen to books when I am at work and can’t actually read. The only wish I have is that my local library had a better selection of audio books. The selection sort of really sucks. I think I’ll listen to I Wish You Were Mine by LL next, which is the second book in her Oxford series.

Holly: This week I finished reading Light My Fire by Christie Ridgway, which was an okay read. The MC’s felt a little young to me, but I liked the overall premise enough that I plan to continue the series. I re-read Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs and Fairytale Come Alive by Kristen Ashley.

For audiobooks I continued my Lauren Blakely Binge with The Hot One, which I DNF’d, and The Only One, which I didn’t much care for. I also listened to Trophy Husband and Nights with Him, which I liked better. Then I listened to The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood, because Tracy and I were talking about it and I couldn’t help myself. I also finished Feral Magic by Robin D. Owens, which wasn’t bad, but the narrator talked so slow it drove me crazy.

I’m currently listening to Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone (aka Victoria Dahl) and reading Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh and Hot Dad by Whitley Cox.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty eventful week for me on the personal front so I didn’t read as much as I did last week but it’s all good cause I do what I want. 😉 I did finish Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks, which I absolutely LOVED and then I read The Duke Buys a Bride by Sophie Jordan for my book club meeting on Monday. I also read and freaking adored Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs. I need a Charles and Anna kind of love because who doesn’t? They’re the best.

Now, I’m listening to Dearest Clementine by Alexa Martin and reading Hot Dad by Whitley Cox. Both are going well so far so I’m hopeful that will continue. Wish me luck!

Molly MacRae’s Knot the Usual Suspects. I didn’t like Geneva (the ghost) when I started the series. She’s been growing on me with each new book.

  2. Looks like some great books you have read ladies.

Rowena—I am so thrilled that you liked Sophie Jordan’s new book, it wasn’t her best or anything, but a solid romance for sure. And I liked that it was based on a true thing…Bride Buying. I can’t get enough of the Highlander books from Maya Banks.

Holly–I love all the historical’s from Julie Garwood especially on Audio. Hope you are enjoying Archangel’s Prophecy though.

Casee–I adore Nevada as well because you see her vulnerabilities as well as her strengths. Even though I am not one to kick ass like her, I can still relate to her in other ways. 🙂 I like audiobooks because I can also listen to them at work and get some reading in even while I am working hehe and with the hours I work listening to music makes me tired but audiobooks and podcasts focus my mind more.

Hope you ladies have a great weekend!!

    • Renee,

I am completely and totally obsessed with audiobooks thanks to my partners-in-crime, Holly & Rowena. I agree with you about listening to music. I haven’t found any podcasts that I like yet, but I haven’t really taken the time to really look into it.

    Recent reads here ~

    — Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad for my book group. I found it a dismal story which likely means that the author did a good job. My group had a lively discussion.
    — Leta Blake’s Any Given Lifetime which I quite enjoyed despite the story aspects that strained credulity. It’s a male/male romance with a reincarnation theme. I’ll likely re-read it.
    — Jackie North’s Heroes for Ghosts: A Love Across Time Story. This was (surprise!) a time travel romance set in WWI era and present day France featuring a student of history working on his thesis and a doughboy (an American soldier). I have a fondness for time travel stories, and I enjoyed this one despite having a few quibbles. It’s the first in a time travel series by the author and I look forward to reading the next book which features different characters.
    — Would it Be Okay to Love You? by Amy Tasukada which was a pleasant m/m story set in Japan featuring two very different characters: a voice actor and an accountant (a salaryman). I thought the story did well at giving a sense of place through food, celebrations, even bathing. That said, I don’t have an interest in continuing the series.
    — two books that the authors describe as “…essentially Regency Romances set on alien world — Space Regencies, if you will, and our bow to Georgette Heyer ….” They are set in what is known as the Liaden Universe; I enjoyed them both. They are Local Custom and Scout’s Progress.

  4. I’m listening to The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton and reading At Your Service by Sandra Antonelli (funny, mature romance!)

  5. Joanne B

Could not get into Only You right now, so I’m doing a reread of an old Diana Palmer book Heartbreaker.

  6. Jana Leah

I’m reading Dannika Dark’s Deathtrap. Each book in this series has the right mix of action, romance, & humor.

  7. Jana Leah

I’m reading Susan McBride’s Mad as Helen. I like it, but I’m not sure if I’m going to finish the series.
