WAYR-New

Casee: I’ve had a great reading week. I read The Darkest Warrior by Gena Showalter, which was amazing. It’s in my top three favorites in the series. Look for my review on Monday. You will love Gillian and Puck. If you haven’t read the Lords of the Underworld series, you really should.

After a brief hiatus from the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti, I am back to it. Last night I finished Provoked, which is the fifth book in the series. I’m starting Twisted next. It’s actually a novella and I’m not a fan of novellas. They usually don’t have enough meat for me. As I’m not a meat eater, that is really weird to say. Each book in this series is better than the one before it. That sounds like such a cliché, but it’s true. This series will definitely be in my top five of the year.

Holly: I had very little reading time this week. I managed to listen to the McCabe trilogy by Maya Banks. In Bed with a Highlander, Seduction of a Highland Lass and Never Love a Highlander are all wonderful books. Banks’ contemporaries can be hit or miss for me, but all three of these were amazing. If you haven’t read the trilogy, I highly recommend them.

I also reread The Kingpin of Camelot by Cassandra Gannon after forcing recommending Tracy read it. It’s such a fun book. If you’re looking for something light and outside the box, you really must try it. I also started listening to Diamond Bay by Linda Howard. It’s my first time in audio and so far it’s pretty good.

Rowena: This week was a productive week on the reading front of me so I’m a happy camper. I’m really hoping that this reading business sticks with me for the rest of the summer because I have a bunch of books to read. I read One Small Thing by Erin Watt and that was an enjoyable read that was complicated, a little angsty but still super sweet. After that, I read The Fragile Ordinary by Samantha Young and that was another fabulously sweet contemporary YA romance. I followed that up with Hard Sell by Lauren Layne which was my favorite read of the week because Matt and Sabrina’s story is everything that I wanted it to be. Lauren Layne is so my jam these days.

Now, I’m finishing up The Accidentals by Sarina Bowen and it’s another great contemporary YA. Sarina Bowen is really rocking this writing business. She writes such great stuff. When I’m done with this, I’ll be jumping into The Real Deal by Lauren Blakely.

    Recent reads here ~

    — a book I quite enjoyed which others here might also like — Letters to the Lost: A Novel by Iona Grey
    — Nora Roberts’ Shelter in Place. While I enjoyed the story (if such can be said about a novel revolving around a mass shooting), it’s not one that I see myself re-reading.
    — Fatal Chaos (The Fatal Series) by Marie Force. I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series that I’ve read. This is the most recent, but it turns out I’ve managed to skip one. Don’t ask me why my library has volumes one, four, and twelve of this series but is missing the rest. This series is best read in order.
    — enjoyed Bru Baker’s contemporary male/male paranormal romance Camp H.O.W.L.
    — Speak: The Graphic Novel by Laurie Halse Anderson and Emily Carroll which proved to be a poignant read.
–the memoir My Grape Year (Grape Series Book 1) by Laura Bradbury which was a light and pleasant read detailing the author’s year in Burgundy when she was seventeen. If you read this, prepare to be made VERY hungry as much delicious food and wine is consumed. I was inspired to read this book after reading the transcript of an audio interview with the author at the SBTB site.
    — re-read Murder In Thrall by Anne Cleeland which I enjoyed once again.

This week I read Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh. I’m late to the Psy/Changelings, but slowly working my way through the series. I also read Melt For You by J.T. Geissinger. Really disliked the heroine until about the 50% mark where she at least became tolerable, but the hero, Cameron, sigh, burly, tattooed, Scottish, kilt-wearing rugby player -where can I get one of those please?! Just picked up The Kiss Quotient from the library, but sadly I have company all weekend, so I’m trying to figure out when I’ll be able to read it.

    • Melt for You was really frustrating for me as well. I loved, loved Cam, but the heroine’s insecurities drove me batty. Burn for You was much better, imo.

Is this your first time reading the Singh series?

Im reading The Last Wolf by Maria Vale and listening to Bittersweet by Sabrina Bowen. Im a HUGE fan of Jennifer Ashley and adore the historical mystery series !

    • How is the Bittersweet audio? I bought a copy a couple months ago but I haven’t listened to it yet (I read it when it was released, but I figured the audio would be good for my commute).

    • I tried the first JAL contemp when it was first released, but I couldn’t get into it. I bought each subsequent book as they were released, and I haven’t read those either. Someday.

Finished Madeline Hunters Wicked trilogy and started Grace Burrowes’ My Own True Duchess.
