What Are You Reading? (+ #Cockygate Giveaway)

WAYR-New

Casee: I’m still reading Claimed by Rebecca Zanetti. It’s only the second book in the series. Now that graduation week is over, I can really get into it. I’ve been reading a few pages here and there this week but just haven’t had time to really sit down and read.

After I’m done with Claimed, I’m going to pick up Ocean’s Light by Nalini Singh. I really don’t have an answer for why I haven’t picked it up before now. Obviously I’m demented.

Holly: I started re-reading the Kate Daniels series this week in anticipation of Magic Triumphs in August. I read Magic Bites, Magic Burns and Magic Strikes. At this rate I’ll have to do another re-read to be fresh for Magic Triumphs. I did download an ARC of Iron and Magic yesterday, though, so I’mg going to dig into that soon.

Rowena: This week, I finished reading Making Up by Lucy Parker and enjoyed it. Leo and Trix were a lovely couple that really came together and I ate their story right up. I didn’t read much else in the way of books. However, I did do a lot of reading on all things #cockygate. I read all of the documents that Courtney Milan provided on the cases and the entire thing is really interesting. I didn’t think I’d ever be this invested in a court case but I am. I’m rooting for Team Romance and hope that things turn out in our favor.

My plan for the weekend is dig into I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting. I’ve been itching to read this story and am really hoping that I get over my slump and just start reading. Wish me luck!

About the Cocktales Anthology:Cocktales is a limited-release anthology (available *only* from May 26 – August 26, 2018) of original, never before published material, some of which is raw and unedited. Each story was specifically written for this anthology.

The goal of the Cocktales Anthology is to raise funds to fight against obstruction of creative expression. Specifically, what we believe are obstruction attempts through the trademarking of common (single) words for titicular use in books / or as a book series (eBooks, print, and audio).

*ALL* net profits will be donated to:1) Authors already impacted by creative-obstruction (10%), and2) Romance Writers of America (RWA) (90%) as a general donation intended for their Advocacy Fund.

Disclaimer: This anthology is not being conducted on behalf of RWA, nor does RWA endorse this anthology or effort. They have, however, graciously agreed to accept the funds.

Today is a big day for our author friends and #cockygate so to help in our little way, we’re giving away three e-copies of Cocktales: The Cocky Collective to three lucky winners. Our thoughts and good vibes to Kevin Knuepper, Tara Crescent and Jennifer Watson today in court.

    Recent reads here ~

    — Thea Harrison’s Planet Dragos: A Novella of the Elder Races. I was eagerly anticipating reading this as it’s the final work concerning characters I really like, but the reality fell short of my expectations. Oh, well.
    — Beauty and the Geek (Gone Geek Book 1) by Sidney Bristol which is a contemporary romance. This dealt with some interesting issues (stereotypes, appearances, harassment), but I don’t think it’s a book I’ll soon re-read.
    — Dead By Midnight: An I-Team Christmas by Pamela Clare (romantic suspense). It’s one in a series, so while it could be read as a stand alone, it features many characters that have been the subject of the author’s earlier books. I found it a pleasant read, but I don’t see myself re-reading it.
    — the graphic novel The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang. This was a pleasant read but it was quite anachronistic; it was set in Europe in (my guess) the 1800s but the characters all spoke as if they lived today.
    — Dal MacLean’s Object of Desire which I’d describe a mystery with a romantic element even though it does feature a male/male romance. The storyline was involved and kept me guessing; I enjoyed the book (as I did the author’s first) and would like to read her next book.
    — The Family Trade (Merchant Princes Book 1) plus The Hidden Family: Book Two of Merchant Princes both by Charles Stross. These are science fiction/fantasy with a significant amount of economics.

Thank you for the opportunity for a chance to win COCKYTALES….I have been following the #cockygate on Twitter, especially today’s result….I loved the part where the judge starts describing the ‘benefits’ of a male cover model…lol

I’m reading Rough Edge by C.D. Reiss. It’s very angsty but riveting! Thanks for the awesome giveaway! This situation is so bizarre and I can’t believe that someone honestly thinks this is rational.

  4. Right now, I’m reading Suzan Tisdale’s Caelen’s Wife. First time I have picked up one of her books.

  5. Viki S.

I’m reading Talon and am about to begin, The telomere effect : a revolutionary approach to living younger, healthier, longer.

I finished Family Gathering by Robyn Carr. She’s always a winner for me. Then I read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata after seeing how it placed in the top 10 over at likesbooks.com and I really liked it. I’m not sure I’ll look at her backlist just yet–I have a few others on my TBR. I’m rereading The Time In Between by Kristen Ashley this weekend before we leave for a road trip. I’ve got Devney Perry’s The Birthday List, Pucked by Helena Hunting and a couple more by Penny Reid but I don’t know which one I’ll read next.

  7. Joanne B

I am rereading Kristin Ashley’s The Colorado Mountain series and the Rock Chick series.

  8. Ada

I just finished Four Weddings and a Fireman by Jennifer Bernard and now trying to decide what to read next!
