MR-New

Casee: I read two books in January and oh my gosh am I eager to share.

Year One by Nora Roberts | 3.5 out of 5
Judgement Road by Christine Feehan | 4 out of 5

I was really excited to read Year One by Nora Roberts, but I was also disappointed. My favorite book of the two was Judgement Road by Christine Feehan. I loved the characters and although it had a few things I didn’t care for, overall I really enjoyed it.

Holly: I had a pretty good reading month. I listened to quite a few audiobooks, which is new for me.

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet | 4 out of 5
Breath of Fire by Amanda Bouchet | 2.75 out of 5
Heart on Fire by Amanda Bouchet | 2 out of 5
Pretty Girls Dancing by Kylie Brant (audio) | 4 out of 5
Binti by Nnedi Okorafor | 3.25 out of 5
Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor | 3 out of 5
Binti: The Night Masquerade by Nnedi Okorafor | 3.25 out of 5
Happiness for Humans by P.Z. Reizin | 3 out of 5
Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath | 4.25 out of 5
Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood (audio) | 5 out of 5
The Year We Hid Away by Sarina Bowen (reread) | 5 out of 5
The Gamble by Kristen Ashley (audio) | 3.25 out of 5
The Wedding by Julie Garwood (audio) | 4.5 out of 5
The Secret by Julie Garwood (audio) | 4.5 out of 5
The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan (reread) | 4.5 out of 5
Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood (audio) | 4 out of 5
Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the month was probably Pretty Girls Dancing by Kylie Brant. It wasn’t a romance, but I enjoyed the ebb and flow of the story. I also really enjoyed Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen, A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet and the Binti series by Nnedi Okorafor. My least favorite read was Heart on Fire by Amanda Bouchet. That book was a hot mess.

Rowena: January was a pretty strong start on the reading front for me so I’m pretty happy with myself right now. I read some pretty awesome books and some, not so awesome books but still, overall, January was good to me.

Here’s what I read.

Man Candy (Real Love #3) by Jessica Lemmon | 4 out of 5
Beyond Scandal & Desire (Sins for All Seasons #1) by Lorraine Heath | 4.25 out of 5
About that Kiss (Heartbreaker Bay #5) by Jill Shalvis | 4 out of 5
The Truth about Love & Dukes (Dear Lady Truelove #1) by Laura Lee Guhrke | 3.25 out of 5
Breaking the Ice (Juniper Falls #2) by Julie Cross | 4.75 out of 5
West Coast Love (Journey to the Heart #3) by Tif Marcelo | 3.5 out of 5
Love Between Enemies (Grad Night #2) by Molly E. Lee | 2 out of 5
The Trouble with True Love (Dear Lady Truelove #2) by Laura Lee Guhrke | 4.25 out of 5
Man Hands (Man Hands #1) by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby | DNF
Brooklynaire (Brooklyn Bruisers #4) by Sarina Bowen | 4.75 out of 5
Shot on Gold (Play by Play #14) by Jaci Burton | 3 out of 5
In Skates Trouble (Chicago Rebels #0.5) by Kate Meader | 3 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen because holy cow, Nate and Becca’s story rocked my socks. I adored pretty much everything about it and cannot wait for more…we’re getting more, right? I love that series.

My least favorite read of the month goes to Love Between Enemies by Molly E. Lee. That book just wasn’t for me. The heroine got on my hot damn nerves at every turn, even in the end when all is well again, I still didn’t like her but what saved that book from being a complete bust was the hero. What a fantastic kid Gordon was. Love, love, loved him. Another book that I couldn’t get into was Man Hands by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby. I gave up at about a little more than a third through the book because I wasn’t connecting with anything, the characters, the humor so I quit it. That’s the very first book by Bowen that I’ve ever quit. That makes me sad.

My favorite for January was The Hookup by Kristen Ashley and least favorite was Hunted (Sinners#2) by Abi Ketner, Missy Kalicicki.

  2. CelineB

My favorite read of January was The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. My least favorites were two that were fine, but didn’t live up to my high expectations. Those were Dating-ish by Penny Reid and Roomies by Christina Lauren. Both could have benefited by having the hero’s pov.

  3. This is my favorite post every month- I’m nosy, so I like to see how other people got on for the month :). My best read was probably “Immortally Yours” by Lynsay Sands. I was surprised at how much I liked how the story came together & really enjoyed the confrontation scene the heroine has with the hero at the end. I’m not sure I’m sold on their romance overall, but that scene was so I am woman, Hear me roar that it made the whole book for me.

I’m with you, Rowena, in that I did not finish Man Hands, so I’ll count that as my least favorite. I’ve been heavily into comfort reads as my mother died one week ago; I’m fortunate that I was with her at the end. I re-read Lyn Gala’s Ondry and Liam books and am currently re-reading Anne Bishop’s The Others.

  5. Glenda

My favorite book was The Bride Who Got Lucky: the Cavensham Heiresses by Janna MacGregor. I too tried to read Man Hands and just couldn’t do it.

  6. JenM

My favorites were Curse on the Land by Faith Hunter, Trusting Miss Trentham by Emily Larkin, and Bountiful by Sarina Bowen. My least favorite was The Temporary Boyfriend by Jeannie Moon. There wasn’t anything specifically wrong with it, but it just didn’t catch my interest so I DNF’ed it.

  7. Ada

Jennifer Dawson’s As Good As New was my favorite, just loved everything about that book. Least favorite was Unsung by Shannon Richard since I didn’t care much for the heroine!
