What Are You Reading? (404)

WAYR-New

Casee: Oh boy. I haven’t been reading much lately, but not because I’m back in my slump. We are remodeling and my life is in chaos. I’m not able to find a quiet place to read in my house to save my life. When I can sneak a few minutes, I’m reading Ride Wild by Laura Kaye. This is the third book in her Raven Riders series. So far it is really good. I just need more time to read it.

Holly: I had a pretty crazy week and didn’t have a lot of reading time. I did some re-reading and finished Play it Safe by Kristen Ashley. It’s an older book but I missed it the first time around. I’m not sure what I’ll read next.

Rowena: I finished reading Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai and The Wedding by Julie Garwood earlier this week and I enjoyed both books but I haven’t been able to jump into a new read though I did pick up Hard Cherish by Nalini Singh. Wish me luck because I’m starting to feel like Will when he’s back and everything seems okay but he keeps getting stuck in the upside down. I was reading and loving life and then…I was not reading. Or not reading much.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

  1. I’m reading Nightsong by Valerie Sherwood, the third book in a trilogy, and while I loved the first two books this one just isn’t doing it for me. I have 26 pages to go, and am seriously wondering if the hero and heroine will get an HEA, and almost don’t even care anymore after the ridiculous amnesia plot.

Earlier this week I read Sweet Tea and Sympathy by Molly Harper, the first book in her new series, Southern Eclectic, and I really enjoyed it. It was only my second book of hers, the first one being Save a Truck, Ride a Redneck, which is a prequel novella to the series, and which I had requested from NetGalley based on the title alone. Now I need to find more of her books!

I’ve been doing a little better on reading this week and still listening to a lot of audiobooks with the Audible-R subscription. Right now I’m reading Susan Mallery’s Second Chance Girl and it’s reminding me why I loved Susan Mallery. Her last several books have just been okay for me and I was thinking maybe I was just sick of her writing. This one has been fun so far.

I also liked 69 Million Things I Hate About You by Kira Archer. It’s about a woman who wins the lottery and decides to give her demanding boss, the hero, a hard time instead of just quitting. It was a lot of fun.

I listened to Goodbye, Paradise and Hello, Forever by Sarina Bowen both of which were good and a couple Lauren Blakely. All of Blakely’s books have been solid and fun, good for when I need a light, no-conflict book.

Besides the Mallery book, I’m also reading Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood for my book challenge (a book you’ve owned forever but not read). I’m liking it so far and am looking forward to checking out the miniseries on Netflix.

  3. Looks like you all three have been reading some great ones. Cassee I hope that you are really enjoying Ride Wild, I had a blast with that one. And the whole Raven Riders MC has been so fun and so refreshing from all the other MC series out there.

Holly I really adore Kristen Ashley, everything I pick up is fantastic. I have heard of Play It Safe however I haven’t had the opportunity to grab it yet. Will have to do that very soon.

Rowena….we just read all the same books around the same time I SWEAR!! hehe great minds think alike right. I just read Cherish Hard and really enjoyed it. So fun with the family dynamics and seeing them younger than in Rock Hard. Wrong To Need You I am just about to start so I am pretty excited. I have really been impressed with Alisha Rae and the covers are delightful and so diverse.

I started but did not finish Just One Touch by Maya Banks as it was not speaking to me.

    Recent reads ~

    — the contemporary romance Complicated by Kristen Ashley. It was a pleasant read but probably not a book I’ll be re-reading. This author has a very distinctive style, and this was quintessentially a Kristen Ashley book.
    — Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for my book group. This was a meaty read. I would have been unlikely to finish this were I not reading it for my book group, but I’m glad I did. It was eye opening in a number of ways. (And .. spoiler alert … it had a happy ending which satisfied my romance reading soul.) I will admit that it left me with no desire to visit Nigeria.
    — The Librarian: A First Contact Story by M.N. Arzu which I enjoyed.
    — read and enjoyed The Christmas Throwaway by RJ Scott which is a male/male contemporary romance.

  5. I’ve just finished CHERISH HARD by Nalini Singh, I liked it but it wasn’t like the Rock Kiss series. It might be that the characters were not very interesting. These days I’m reading one of the last Troubleshooter Series, HEADED FOR TROUBLE, with fictional interviews and short stories. I find it quite entertaining, although I have to recognize that it is for fans only.
I’m looking forward for the next Alisha Rai’s book. HATE TO WANT YOU was a 5-star book for me, so I hope the next one is good, as well.
