WAYR-New

Holly: This week things were crazy at Casa de Holly, so I only managed to finished Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled by Lauren Dane and re-read the Magdalene series by Kristen Ashley: The Will, Soaring and The Time in Between. I should have done the reread before I read The Time in Between, the latest release in the series, but I didn’t get around to it. Since some of the events in The Time in Between overlap those of Soaring, I ended up rereading it as well, even though I just read it for the first time last week (or the week before? I can’t remember now).

Next up is Heart Sight by Robin D. Owens. Vinni and Avellana! I’ve been waiting about a decade for this book.

Rowena: I haven’t been reading much of anything this week. I finished reading Chasing Christmas Eve (Heartbreaker Bay #4) by Jill Shalvis, re-read A Lot Like Love (FBI/US Attorneys #2) by Julie James and started Duke of My Heart (Season for Scandal #1) by Kelly Bowen but haven’t finished it. I’m still reading it, hopefully, I’ll get that done over the weekend.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

The bad news is I was really sick 2 days this week. The good news is I got to do a lot of reading because of it! For some reason I really wanted to read historicals, specifically books about scottish highlanders, which is beyond weird for me. But I went with it! First I read The Duchess Deal from Tessa Dare, which was lovely and very funny. Then I read 3 Lyndsay Sands books, Taming the Highland Bride, Hellion and the Highlander, and Highlander’s Sword. I am not madly in love with her books but they’re light and a little funny and they struck the right tone for me this week. Then I read Stolen by the Highlander, which is a Harlequin Historical (a line I don’t know I’ve EVER read, as a matter of fact). That was unexpectedly good, and as it’s the first in a series I’ll look for future books next time I get a highlander craving. Unfortunately I’m healthy again, so no more reading for a while. 😉

Ooh, Holly, I’m envious that you’re able to read Heart Sight by Robin D. Owens; I like the Celta series, too.

    Recent reads here ~

    — I finished another early Mary Balogh historical romance, Red Rose, published in 1986. I found the hero somewhat unheroic though perhaps he was simply a man very much of his time. In spite of that, I’m happy to have read a new to me Mary Balogh book.
    — I’ve finished a couple of male/male romances that I read for a challenge on another site involving choosing a book based on its cover. The first was Bone to Pick by TA Moore. I enjoyed this mystery and its cover. I hope that the author will write more books featuring Javi (an FBI agent), Cloister (a K-9 dog handler), and Bourneville (the dog). The story ended with a happy for now so there is lots of room for the men’s relationship to grow. There were also questions left unanswered about the characters’ pasts which I’d like to see answered.
The second was Back to You by Chris Scully. This was a contemporary romance with a strong mystery element. I found the cover art of this book to be quite clever. The title is reflective of the book’s content, but it can also be a play on words and the cover art takes advantage of that fact by showing us a person’s back. I enjoyed the story of a man returning to him hometown after some twenty years away and the relationship he develops with the man who was his childhood best friend. I’d happily read more by this author.
    — A Scrying Shame (Blood Visions Paranormal Mysteries Book 1) by Donna White Glaser’
This was a quick read but not a story I recommend if you have an issue about crime scenes or blood.
    — More Than Luck (Legendary Pairs Book 2) by Casey Cameron; This is a May/December romance featuring two men; I enjoyed it.
    — They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera; a young adult novel which has an intriguing premise. Anyone who is to die receives a phone call between midnight and three of that day with the news; they are not told when or how they will die. The story centers around two young men (17 and 18) who connect through an app called Last Friend and details their Last Day.
    — I re-read Making Faces by Amy Harmon. Once again, it had me crying. It’s really a lovely story.

I’m still taking forever to read things but I did manage to finish Grin and Beard It and Beard Science by Penny Reid both of which I enjoyed. I also read Of Mice and Men for my reading challenge. It’s fills the requirement for a book I should have read in school. It was never assigned to me, but it was assigned to a lot of my friends. Currently I’m trying to read another challenge book, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. I’m only a chapter in and I just haven’t been in a reading mood for the past couple days so I haven’t picked it back up.
