MR-New

Casee: I read none books. None. I’m detecting a problem here.

Holly: I had a pretty good reading month. I tried some new authors and revisited some older books. I read a total of 18 books.

Magic Waking by Eva Chase | 2.75 out of 5
Soul’s Blade by Eva Chase | DNF
Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.25 out of 5
The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 3.5 out of 5
Fantastical by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 3.5 out of 5
Broken Dove by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 4 out of 5
Midnight Soul by Kristen Ashley (reread) | DNF
The Time in Between by Kristen Ashley | 3 out of 5
Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews (reread) | 4 out of 5
Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews (reread) | 4.25 out of 5
One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews (reread) | 4.5 out of 5
The Leopard King by Ann Aguirre | 3.5 out of 5
Gaslight Hades by Grace Draven | 4 out of 5
Born in Fire by K.F. Breene | 3.25 out of 5
Raised in Fire by K.F. Breene | 3.5 out of 5
Fused in Fire by K.F. Breene | 3.5 out of 5
So I Married a Sorcerer by Kerrelyn Sparks | 4 out of 5
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie (reread) | 4.5 out of 5

My favorite read was So I Married a Sorcerer. It isn’t a perfect story, but I enjoyed the world. My second favorite was Gaslight Hades. I may have enjoyed it more, even, than So I Married a Sorcerer. So maybe they’re tied. My least favorite was probably Magic Waking. I didn’t hate it, but I was hoping for more than I got.

Rowena: August was the month where I got my crap together and started reading books. The summer came and went and I didn’t read much in June and July but August….August, I read. Here’s what I read last month:

Love in the Friend Zone by Molly E. Lee | 4 out of 5
Arm Candy (Real Love #2) by Jessica Lemmon | 4.25 out of 5
Links by Lisa Becker | 3 out of 5
Gentlemen Prefer Heiresses (Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James #4.5) by Lorraine Heath | 4.5 out of 5
Royally Screwed (Royally #1) by Emma Chase | 4 out of 5
Clean Sweep (Innkeepers Chronicles #1) by Ilona Andrews | 4 out of 5
Something about You (FBI/US Attorneys #1) by Julie James | 4.25 out of 5
Royally Matched (Royally #2) by Emma Chae | 4.5 out of 5
Royally Raised (Royally #2.5) by Emma Chase | 4 out of 5
Royally Endowed (Royally #3) by Emma Chase | 4.25 out of 5
Temporary by Sarina Bowen & Sarah Mayberry | 4 out of 5
Fallen Heir (Royals #4) by Erin Watt | DNF

My favorite read of the month goes to Royally Matched by Emma Chase and Gentlemen Prefer Heiresses by Lorraine Heath. Both reads were happy reads for me and I thoroughly enjoyed them both.

My least favorite read of the month goes to Fallen Heir by Erin Watt. I actually ended up DNF-ing Fallen Heir because it’s getting ridiculous and I knew that there was a cliff hanger and I just can’t deal with all of the Royals shenanigans so I put it down for good. Who knows if I’ll ever pick it back up again but right now? Nope.

This month we’re giving away:

Royally Matched by Emma Chase
So I Married a Sorcerer by Kerrelyn Sparks

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in winning. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

My favorite read of the month was Mordacious by Sarah Lyons Fleming. I love a good zombie apocalypse story and this one was action packed with funny, likeable characters. Completely addictive– it has about 500 pages and I read it in less than a day. Sadly, I just could not get into When I Need You by Lorelei James. I’ll give it another try when my mood changes.

  2. CelineB

My favorites this month were Wildfire by Ilona Andrews and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. My least favorite was probably A Most Extraordinary Pursuit by Juliana Gray. It was okay, but kind of scattered. I liked the second book in the series much better.

I would love to win either book! Thanks for the chance!

  3. Rowena, it’s like we’re simpatico. Those are about the same way I feel about every book on your list. I want to go back and try with the Watt book though, I wasn’t in the correct headspace to pick it up. Nice to hear that someone else had the same reaction – so maybe it wasn’t just me.
My favorite this month is a tie between Perfect Pitch (Cari Quinn/Taryn Elliott) and EnForce (M. Malone/Nana Malone). Both of them come from series’ that I’m heavily invested in, and they were both standouts in those runs. I gave them both five stars.

  4. Diane Sallans

I just finished Jayne Ann Krentz’s Secret Sisters – I always enjoy her books. Soon I’ll be reading JD Robb’s new In Death book. I really enjoyed the first book in Kerrelyn Sparks Sorcerer series and look forward to reading this next one.

  5. Kareni

I really enjoyed a couple of male/male romances this month ~ Bone to Pick by TA Moore which is new and an older book, St. Nacho’s by Z.A. Maxfield. I started and didn’t finish a host of books — most I just wasn’t in the mood for.

I’ve already read Royally Matched. Were I to win, I’d ask for So I Married a Sorcerer (but honestly the Grace Draven book sounds more enticing!).

Favorites of August: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn and The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare.

Least Favorites: Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, My Fair Duchess by Megan Frampton, and Beauty Like the Night by Joanna Bourne.
