What Are You Reading? (389)

WAYR-New

Casee: I am still refusing to say I’m in a slump. I have so many great books to read, I just don’t have time to read them. I read The Darkest Promise by Gena Showalter this week and it was wonderful. I had been looking forward to that book for a long time. I have Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh and Spellbinder by Thea Harrison to read. I just need to find the time to sit down and read. Good luck with that. Sigh.

Holly: After I finished Spellbinder by Thea Harrison, I was craving Arthurian romances. I asked for recommendations on Twitter and ended up starting Angela Knight’s Mageverse series. I read the first five full-length books and 3 novellas. I read Seductions Gift, Master of the Night, Galahad, Master of the Moon, Master of Wolves, Master of Swords, Master of Dragons and Vampire’s Ball. This wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I asked for Arthurian recs. I wanted something that followed the legends more. The series is pretty cracktastic. The stories aren’t perfect, and I definitely enjoyed some more than others, but I read them all back-to-back, so that tells you something.

Next up I think I’m going to read The Leopard King by Ann Aguirre.

Rowena: sigh I didn’t read anything this week. Not one damn book. I started Love in the Friend Zone by Molly E. Lee but didn’t get very far into it because I’m just not in the mood for words. I watched a whole bunch of TV though. I need to get my reading life back. Wish me luck for this coming week.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I’m with Rowena this week. Reading has just been slow for me so I’ve been watching more movies and tv. I did finish White Hot which was great. Then I reread The Westing Game as part of a book challenge I’m doing. The requirement was to read a childhood favorite and I picked this one because Summer of the Monkeys and A Wrinkle in Time were longer. Luckily it held up which hasn’t always been the case when I’ve reread some books I enjoyed growing up. I just started another challenge book Fer-de-Lance, the first Nero Wolfe book. I’d always been curious about this series and it fit the set in Kansas or written by a Kansas author part of the challenge. It’s slow-going so far because my brain is just too tired for reading. After I finish this one, I’ll get back to my romance reading for a bit.

I didn’t get a ton of reading done, just a few books. I read book 6 in the Psy Changeling series, and I read One True Pairing by Cathy Yardley which was great but not quite as good as the first book in that series. I once again attempted to come back to New York Actually by Sarah Morgan and still wasn’t interested enough to keep going. And I also got maybe 1/3 through book 2 in the Southern Arcana series, but I put that one down too. I don’t know, maybe I’m just not in the right place for it now but it was just too dark and too many terrible things going on. So, kind of a sad reading week for me I guess!

  3. Awww poor Rowena – here are some words for you to read. I diagnose a mini slumpette and here is your prescription -Chocolate cake, something fizzy and a man with big . . . pecs, grin how about a re – read of a favourite – maybe Judd, I’ll let you borrow him for a little while!

I read Nora ‘ s new one – Come Sundown, the secondary story was fantastic, very compelling and well written – and sadly highlighted that the main pairing was as boring as watching paint dry. Too many details I could do without – like repeatedly listing the days jobs to do, what that entailed etc, rinse, repeat. Yawn. So just read the secondary bits and skimmed the rest.

  4. Ooh the Post comment button disappeared – my post was too long – lol, lol, lol!

Also read Rough and Tumble by Rhenna Morgan, a new to me author – read like Diana Palmer on crack! He was a HUGE alphahole, continually calling the heroine ‘sugar’ whilst chewing on wooden toothpicks. Spots the buttoned down heroine and is convinced that she has a wild side and he is the only man that can bring it out! Pleeeeeease! Skimmed that to the end too. Yes, it only got worse, sugar!

So will rifle through the TBR mountain for something to cleanse the palette. Hey Rowena – gimme back Judd!

    • I’m working on the damn post button. I’ll figure it out or die trying!!! ::dramaqueen::

That Morgan book sounds terrible. I’ll be skipping it. Thanks for the heads up.
