What Are You Reading? (335)

WAYR-New

Casee: I got nothing. I haven’t read a single word since last Friday. Technically I’m still reading Archangel’s Viper even though I haven’t picked it up in a week. The Stone Warriors: Kato by D.B. Reynolds released today and I’m hoping that will capture my interest. I’m not hopeful. If Nalini Singh can’t do it, no one can.

Holly: Things have been pretty busy for me this month, so my reading has been really hit or miss. I might go a full week or ten days without reading a book, then finish three in a day. It’s weird. Since we skipped the last few weeks, I’m just going to list out my most recent reads, even though some of them were from longer than a week ago.

I read Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh. It was fabulous. I’ve been dying for more about Holly since book one, and Viper didn’t disappointed. So.Good. I finally read Moonshadow by Thea Harrison, then dove right in to Spellbinder, the next book in the series. Both were really fabulous. I’m sorry I waited so long to read them. I read Stay by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. It was a cute contemporary romance. I’m anxious to read the first book now. I re-read Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews (currently $2.99 for Kindle), then followed up with White Hot and Wildfire, books 2 and 3 in that series. I’m so sad they’re over. I need more!

Aside from that I re-read some favorite Julie Garwood novels; Saving Grace, The Lion’s Lady and Honor’s Splendour were just as great this time around.

Now I’m reading Wired by Garwood. I don’t usually have a lot of success with her contemporary novels, but I’m going to give it try.

Rowena: Last week was such a busy week with graduations and graduation parties to prepare and attend so I wasn’t read a lot of anything. I did manage to finish Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann and then read Stay by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy. This week, I read Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon and Lucky in Love by Kasie West. I also read How to Change a Life by Stacey Ballis and am now reading Ready to Run by Lauren Layne. I’m really happy with the books that I’m reading so no complaints from me this week.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I had an excellent reading week! Holly, I read Spellbinder this week too. I think I liked Moonshadow just a shade more because I really loved the side characters. In Spellbinder, it’s pretty much just Sid and Morgan, but boy did that book pack an emotional punch. I am LOVING this series. I also read The Golden Spider and The Silver Skull by Anne Renwick. It’s a steampunk series that was fun, if not mind blowing. I don’t know if there are going to be more than 2 books or if it’s done? I also started the Moira Rogers Southern Arcana series and read the first book. It hit the spot to satisfy my paranormal kick, though the first book was just ok. Then I read the newest book in Cynthia Eden’s LOST series, Wrecked, and it was exactly what I expected. Finally, I read the first book in a new series called Old School by Jenny Schwartz. The first book is Phoenix Blood, and it’s the first I’ve read with a griffin shifter! It was at least promising, so I’ll be checking out the next 2 books in the series.

    Some recent reads here ~

    — the almost contemporary romance (it’s set in the 90s) How to Love Her (McCullough Mountain Prequel) by Lydia Michaels.
    — a couple of books about which we needn’t say more; they were rather disappointing. Heated Mating (Luminet Warrior Series Book 1) and Claiming Her Warriors (Luminet Warrior Series Book 2); both are by Savannah Stuart (aka Katie Reus).
    — Ilona Andrews’ White Hot: A Hidden Legacy Novel which I enjoyed.
    — the short non-fictional inspirational work Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life … and Maybe the World by Admiral William H. McRaven. It was a quick and enjoyable read.

Hmm. Once again I need to do this in multiple entries.
    — a work of fiction by Sawyer Bennett which I enjoyed and found myself thinking about as I lay awake in the middle of the night. The author made her name writing romances, but this is different from her usual style. I believe this is a book I’ll read again. It’s a book that needs a host of trigger warnings: child abuse, suicide, war, severe injuries, incurable cancer. I’ve probably failed to list a few. The Hard Truth About Sunshine by Sawyer Bennett
    — Alyssa Cole’s historical romance An Extraordinary Union (The Loyal League) which I enjoyed. I haven’t read too many romances featuring women of color, so this was a step in that direction. I started the book a couple of weeks ago and then put it down half read; I’m glad I resumed reading.

    — the historical romance The Girl With The Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn which I enjoyed. It’s a book I expect I will be re-reading.
    — a book that I really enjoyed; I’d describe it as a love story. The author was raised in the LDS faith and was a Gospel Doctrine teacher; consequently, her book seemed very accurate in its representation of the Mormon faith. The author also included some disquieting statistics about Mormon LGBT youth as regards suicide and homelessness. And It Came to Pass by Laura Stone
    — Come Sundown by Nora Roberts. I enjoyed it as I normally do books by Nora Roberts. (Though admittedly I lost interest in and did not finish her previous book, The Obsession.)
    — the graphic novel T-Minus: The Race to the Moon by Jim Ottaviani and Zander Cannon to complete a square on the bingo card for my library’s adult summer reading challenge. It was a pleasant read but not something I’ll likely re-read.

      • A pop up appears saying that in sympathy with people in a reading slump it won’t let you post any more! Lol!

There is no error code, rather the Post Comment button disappears as do the lines with email address, name, and website.

Here, I can still see the top of the Post Comment button. If I go further, it’s gone.

There were about eight blank lines after the word website above which did not show up in my response.

After White Hot, I’ve been in a paranormal mood so I’ve been reading PNR and UF. My favorite was Blood of the Earth, the start of a new spinoff series by Faith Hunter. I’m not much for vamps, so I’ve never read her Jane Yellowrock series, but this new series features a woman who has some special kind of earth magic. She was raised in a religious cult, so she’s just now starting to explore her magic and figure out what she can do with it. This was straight UF – no romance at all, although there may be one down the road. I loved it and will be reading the next book soon.

I also enjoyed Not His Dragon by Annie Nicholas, and Ostrich and the ‘Roo by Eve Langlais, which is the 6th in her FUC (Furry United Coalition) series. Both of those were what I would classify as “fun” PNRs.
