MR-New

Casee: Oh geez, I am so embarrassed. I only read three books in April. I just didn’t have it. The reading mojo. I had time, but no inclination. Nothing really caught my attention. Even when I was reading The Chosen by J.R. Ward, I wasn’t really immersed in it. Usually her books suck me right in. Not this time.

  1. The Chosen by J.R. Ward | 4 out of 5.
  2. Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti | 4 out of 5.
  3. Hidden Prey by Cheyenne McCray | 3 out of 5.

My favorite book of the month was Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti. It was really good. It was the second book in her Blood Brothers series and it really sucked me in. It was the only book that I really enjoyed and it took me over a week to read it. Hidden Prey by Cheyenne McCray was my least favorite and I read that book the quickest. Mostly because I skimmed.

Holly: I had a pretty good reading monthly quantity-wise, but almost all of them were re-reads. I fell down the Patricia Briggs/Ilona Andrews rabbit hole.

  1. Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennet | 3 out of 5
  2. Summoning the Night by Jenn Bennett | DNF
  3. Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3 out of 5
  4. Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  5. Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
  6. Magic Mourns by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3.25 out of 5
  7. Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  8. Magic Dreams by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  9. Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  10. Magic Tests by Ilona andrews (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  11. Magic Gifts by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3 out of 5
  12. Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
  13. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  14. Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
  15. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  16. Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  17. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5

I’d have to say my favorites were the Ilona Andrews re-reads, only because it’s been so long since I read the entire series. My least favorite was Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett. It wasn’t necessarily bad, just not what I was expecting.

Rowena: April was not a good reading month for me. I spent most of it not wanting to read much so I just didn’t. The few books that I did read were good though so let’s get to that.

Here’s what I read in April:

  1. Corrupt by Penelope Douglas | DNF
  2. Dreaming of You by Lisa Klelypas (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  3. The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan | 4 out of 5
  4. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs | 4.25 out of 5
  5. An Affair with a Notorious Heiress by Lorraine Heath | 4 out of 5

My favorite book of the month goes to Moon Called by Patricia Briggs but I did really enjoy my re-read of Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas and then my reads of both The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan and An Affair with a Notorious Heiress by Lorraine Heath. All of those books were solid reads.

I DNF’d Corrupt by Penelope Douglas because the hero turned me off and I heard that things weren’t as they seemed and the hero wasn’t as bad as I was thinking but I just couldn’t go back to reading that book because ugh. It’s not for me. Maybe I’ll give it another go later but not anytime soon.

This month we’re giving away:

Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti (pre-order)
The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan

Both March and April were such bad reading months for me. I read nine books in April which is low for me. I changed my Goodreads Challenge goal from 250 books this year to 200 and I’m still 7 behind schedule. Luckily what I did manage to read was good and I’ve read two books in two days so maybe my slump is finally over.

My favorite book of April was probably A Lady’s Code of Misconduct by Meredith Duran with Between the Devil and the Duke by Kelly Bowen as a close second. My least favorite was She’s Got It Bad by Sarah Mayberry.

I’d love to win The Hot Shot. Thanks for the chance!

  2. I read 27 books in April, and I gave three of them five stars. (My GR challenge is 350, I’m trying to stay ahead in case I hit a slump).

    Here are my April winners:
    Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
The Hard Truth About Sunshine by Sawyer Bennett (no relation afaik)
The Struggle by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Book 3 in the Titan Series)

I’m at 155 for the year right now, so I’m still quite a bit ahead of the game. Hoping for more Five-Star reads in the next months for sure!

April was a really tough month for me too, I just had a hard time getting into most of my books. The exception was The Bride series by S Doyle. It was a modern marriage of convenience story with really excellent characters. Also it is on KU if you have a subscription. I would love to read Kristin Callihan’s latest!

  4. I was sick for a week in April, so somehow I managed to read 21 books, which for me is pretty great. I forgot the joys of binge reading!

Highlight of the month was probably “Breathe” by Kristen Ashley and “The Billionaire Takes a Wife” by Jessica Clare. Lowlight was “Bunny and the Bear” by Eve Langlais… it was kind of a mess. I think it was free, but still. Not great.

I’d love to win “The Hot Shot” or one of the Kate Daniels that Holly reread (maybe Magic Strikes?)!

  5. April was actually a great reading month for me 🙂 I’m 30 books ahead of my goodreads challenge. I’d have to say one of my fav was Twist by Kylie Scott and least fav was 72 hours by Bella Jewel. Thanks for sharing!

I very much enjoyed a re-read of Anne Bishop’s the Others books. Another favorite was Parker’s Sanctuary: A Guardsmen Novel by Cooper West. I attempted a few books that weren’t successes but it may have been a case of me rather than them.

Were I to win, I’d like a copy of The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan or one of the Patricia Briggs’ books on Holly’s list.

  7. Laura Lovejoy- Brunk

I started series Casey Duncan , City of the Lost by Kelly Armstrong…loved it! Finally got read Nicole Edwards Harmless,…Loved Loved it!

  8. JenM

Favorite books of the month were Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs, Reapers Property by Joanna Wylde and to close out the month, I read Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas and loved it. I also had a bunch of B+ reads, so it was a good month. Least favorite was One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy. There was nothing wrong with it but it was one of those really angsty NA romances and I think I’ve pretty much grown out of those. I still like the less angsty NAs, but the over-the-top ones don’t do it for me anymore.

I’d love to win The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan. I love that series.

  9. Maureen

My favorite book in April was A Wild Ride by Vivian Arend and my least favorite was True North by Liora Blake.
