What Are You Reading? (318)

WAYR-New

Holly: I ended up doing a lot of rereading this week, though I didn’t intend to. I reread Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley, which took me forever. Mostly I just picked it up here and there when I had some free time. Then I read Wild Embrace by Nalini Singh, because I was jonseing for something from that world and, surprisingly, I hadn’t read it yet. That led me to reread Heart of Obsidian, Caressed by Ice and then Archangel’s Kiss (yes, in that order..don’t ask).

Now I’m reading Silver Silence and OMFG EVERYONE NEEDS TO LEAVE ME ALONE. I JUST WANT TO READ.

Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me (what’s new?) but basketball season for my daughter’s senior year has finally come to a close so I need to take care of a few things but after all of that is taken care of, I’ll be driving over to Holly’s for some quality book nerd fun. Ha!

I started reading Faking It by Jennifer Crusie but I was bored with it so I gave up almost half way through my re-read so now I’m reading Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh and so far, I’m digging it. I’m not that far in but I’m hopeful. After this, I’ll be digging into my copy of Havoc by Jamie Shaw. I’m anxious to find out how that series ends.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

Holly, I’m so jealous that you’re reading Silver Silence! I’m actually just starting to read my small backlog of Singh books. I’m starting with To Have and to Hold then moving on to Archangel’s Heart and Rock Wedding.

Earlier this week I read For the Love of Pete and Hot by Julia Harper (aka Elizabeth Hoyt) both of which I enjoyed, the latest Charley Davidson book by Darynda Jones, and Crossing Hearts by Kimberly Kincaid. I won Crossing Hearts in a goodreads giveaway and I really liked the characters and plot, the heroine is dealing with a recent diagnosis of MS which made a career change necessary, but I could have used some more romance between the hero and heroine. They were high school sweethearts and I felt like they just fell back into a relationship too easily. I would have liked to have seen more courtship.

I didn’t get to read much this week except a Carla Neggers book called Cold Ridge which was just meh. The romance never grabbed me at all. I also started Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts because someone was telling me how much they love that one, and I have always loved arson investigator stories. So far it’s not grabbing me, but then again it’s a loooong ways into the book and the hero and heroine *just* met. I’ve been dragging my feet on this one for like 5 days, which is almost unheard of for me. Maybe now things will start picking up, but if not I’m out!

This week I read Wilder by Rebecca Yarros. She writes really good NA books. This one had an extreme sports star hero who falls hard for his college tutor (she was in a horrible car accident and absolutely hates taking any kind of risks). I also read Wait For It by M O’Keefe, which was really good, but the hero initially starts out as a total jerk and control freak and I kind of wanted him to stay that way awhile longer. Instead, he turns into a nice guy pretty quickly. I was looking forward to lots of angst and maybe a good grovel, but the book didn’t go in that direction LOL.

    Recent reads here ~

    — Close to You: A Novel by Kara Isaac. This is contemporary fiction with an inspirational component. It’s set in New Zealand, so it was fun to hear some place names and terms that were familiar after the trip my husband and I took a few years ago. If you have an interest in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, you would probably appreciate this book even more that I did.
    — a re-read of Radiance (Wraith Kings Book 1) by Grace Draven
    — And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini for my book group. Initially, I didn’t care for the book due to a feeling of impending doom; however, I became engrossed with the book as I continued on. This book is set in Afghanistan but also in France, Greece, and the US. Each section of the book features a different character (and sometimes a different time); it was interesting to see how the various people/threads connected. I’ll recommend it.
    — re-read some stories from Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs.
    — the light-hearted How to Howl at the Moon by Eli Easton which is a male/male romance featuring what might be considered weredogs.
    — the historical romance The Dare and the Doctor by Kate Noble; it’s the third book in a series, but it stands alone well. I enjoyed it, but I doubt that I’ll re-read it. It featured a heroine who was a botanist specializing in rose hybrids.
    — Hard Wired (Cyberlove Book 3) by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell. It’s another third in a series and while it could be read independently, I think it makes more sense to read the series from the start. I’m definitely unfamiliar with the gaming/con/online setting; however, that did not stop me from enjoying the story.

Let’s see Never Better by Charlotte Stein was released the other week so I obviously started my weekend devouring that one. Good read, although I have to say I did enjoy the other two books in that series a bit more than this one.
Then I of course consoled myself with a massive rereading binge where I started with Mariana Zapata’s Wall of Winnipeg, powered through Penny Reid & L.H. Cosway’s Rugby series and finished with my go-to for these tough times, Nalini Singh’s Allegiance of Honor. Good times!

P.S. Rowena couldn’t be more jealous that you get to read Silver Silence while us mere mortals wither away over here with want until June. love LOVE LOVE anything Psy-Changeling! ❤
