WAYR-New

Casee: I’m still glomming Lexi Blake. I’m reading A Dom is Forever from her Masters and Mercenaries series. I’m still loving it as much as I did at the beginning.

I also have reread a couple of Julie Garwood books. I love her historicals.

Holly: I didn’t read anything this week. I skimmed a couple books but that’s about it.

Rowena: This week, I finished Act Like It by Lucy Parker and then moved on to Pretty Face. Both books were strong books by Lucy Parker and I’m pretty anxious for more. She’s got a way with words and I’m really glad that I took a chance on her stuff.

Right now, I’m reading Good Boy by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy and so far, it’s pretty good. Blake Riley has such an infectious personality and I’m really loving him. I’m really looking forward to seeing how he wins Jess over. I should be done with this book today so after this, my plan is to read Havoc by Jamie Shaw.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

Most of my week was tied up with reading a fascinating (but a bit dense) non fiction book called Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are which looked at the latest theories and developments in the testing of the intelligence of various animals (conclusion – they are much smarter than they’ve been given credit for in the past!).

Now I’m reading a book by a new author, Under Her Skin by Adriana Anders. It’s really good, especially for a debut, but rather angsty as the heroine was abused by her ex. I seem to be in the mood for heavy, intense reads at the moment.

    • Hmm, I need to look up that Adriana Anders book. I’m in the mood for something heavier than what I’ve been reading lately.

      Happy reading!

I am working to find a better balance in my life, so I made some more time for reading this week. (I still haven’t found that balance though because I basically just put off necessary stuff to read. Sigh.) Kind of a mixed bag in terms of books this week.

Moonstruck by Lauren Dane-I wanted to like this more than I did. It was ok, but too much going around in circles, not enough of anything significant happening. But I liked the characters a lot.

Unfathomed by Anna Hackett-This is part of her treasure hunters books which are ridiculous crack for me, and it features a super badass heroine who acts like the alpha guys always do, protecting her man at all costs. I dug this one.

Earl of Darkness by Alex Rickloff-This was a DNF. Another book I really wanted to like because the premise was interesting but the characters got on my nerves, there was a ton of talking, a ton of brooding, a ton of restating the same things again and again, then they travel to a new location and repeat. But not a whole lot of action which given the premise was silly. There wasn’t a lot of romance–sexy times, but I just didn’t feel the deeper connection. Meh. I gave up 1/3 of the way through and skimmed the end, and I’m glad I gave up because the ending was just as underwhelming as the rest.

This week I’ve mainly been catching up on the Elizabeth Hoyt books I had on my kindle. I read books seven through ten of her Maiden Lane series. The tenth book, Duke of Sin, was a bit of a disappointment for me. I never warmed up to the heroine and hero or got involved in their romance. The rest of the books were all solidly good books. After that I DNF Once and Always, a contemporary written under the name Julia Harper. I didn’t like the main characters right off the bat and something about the writing turned me off. Now I’m halfway through For the Love of Pete, another contemporary under the Harper pseudonym, and I’m really enjoying it so far.

I also read One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews which was great as expected and I listened to The Devil in Denim by Melanie Scott which was decent but nothing special. Another DNF this week was Someone to Love by Mary Balogh. I just couldn’t get into it.

    Recent books read here ~

    — In Milady’s Chamber (John Pickett Mysteries Book 1) by Sheri Cobb South. I’d previously read some of her historical romances but this is the first of her historical mysteries that I’ve read. I enjoyed it and will happily read more. It reminded me a bit of Ashley Gardner’s Captain Lacey Regency mysteries
    — the historical romance anthology of linked stories Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stefanie Sloane. As with many anthologies, I found the stories differed in their appeal; I liked best the one by Julia Quinn. It was pleasant but it’s not likely a book I’ll re-read.
    — 738 Days by Stacey Kade. The book is not too graphic (as regards the 738 days); however, the subject matter might prove troubling to some. It seems a tad odd to say that I enjoyed the book, but I did.
    — Mariana Zapata’s Under Locke which is a book I read some time ago. I enjoyed revisiting it as some of the characters play bit parts in the author’s more recent books. That said, it’s not my favorite of her books.
    — Vi Voxley’s Alien General’s Bride which I picked up some time ago when it was free. It’s not a book I’ll revisit.
    — a very enjoyable historical romance which I recommend: The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian
    — All of Me by Gina Sorelle which I enjoyed and which also made me cry.
    — B N Toler’s Where One Goes which had my husband enquiring from the other room about all the sniffling and nose blowing he was hearing. Can you say tear jerker? I enjoyed the book despite my tears.
