What Are You Reading? (312)

WAYR-New

Casee: I’m reading Blood Vow by J.R. Ward. It is book two from the Black Dagger Legacy series. I like it because it’s a fresh new view into the BDB. The BDB is most definitely intertwined, but the heart of it is on the fringes.

Holly: I spent the week finishing my reread of the Mercy Thompson series. I re-read Night Broken for the first time since it was released and my head didn’t explode so I’m calling that an improvement. I also read Fire Touched and then Dead Heat. My husband and I are binge-watching Vikings, so that’s been taking up my reading time.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I just started reading I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen. Before that I read the last two books in the Edge series by Ilona Andrews and Sweep in Peace, the second in the Innkeeper series also by Ilona Andrews. I loved all three of those books, but I need a Jack and Sophie/Lark book and one where George gets his own book (maybe they show up in the third Innkeeper book?). I know that maybe a George and Sophie matchup is more popular, but I really would like to see Jack and Sophie.

    • I seriously adore the Innkeeper series. I want to crawl into that world and never leave. I agree about Jack and Lark/Sophie. I’d love to see them together. Though I admit I thought they acted more brother/sister in Sweep in Peace. I don’t like the idea of her and George, however. That boy..sometimes I love him and sometimes I want to kill him. 🙂

I started the new year with some really good books, Rock Wedding by Nalini Singh, Lord’s Fall by Thea Harrison (trying to catch up on this series), and Color Me Crazy by Carol Pavliska, a rock star romance where the hero has synesthesia, a neurological disorder which in his case leads to him seeing colors whenever he hears sounds. Needless to say, he has a rough time of it as a musician.

I did enjoy it. I don’t want to get into any spoilers, but the author did show some of the grittiness of the rock and roll lifestyle. I love rock star books, but let’s face it, people don’t make it big without pretty big egos and you know drugs are very prevalent. This book was a bit more realistic than many romances in that regard. Also, although there was attraction right away, the hero and heroine didn’t just instantly fall for each other and initially didn’t really even like each other, so that was kind of refreshing. The synesthesia aspect was also done well and integrated into the plot. The first couple of chapters were a bit slow, but after that it picked up and I would definitely recommend it.

I started off my first week of the year with some old favorites and first-time reads! Here’s the list:
Tairen Soul series by C.L. Wilson (Amazing romantic fantasy if you’re into the genre)
Never Sweeter by Charlotte Stein (Such an underrated writer with some really sweet/hot stories to tell)
The Hooker & The Hermit by Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway
Amour et Chocolat series by Laura Florand (Holy crap this series was good. Is anyone else fangirling over these French guys? Anyone?)
