What Are You Reading? (311)

WAYR-New

CaseeI’m finally off my forced reading hiatus thanks to Justice Ascending by Rebecca Zanetti. It is book three in her Scorpius Syndrome series. However badly I was looking forward to reading this book, I still had to make myself read the first chapter to get into it.

If you’re ever on a reading hiatus that isn’t by choice, I strongly suggest making yourself read. I received that advice from a reliable source and it worked. Hopefully, I’ll be back full time now.

Holly: I spent the week re-reading the Mercy Thompson series. Things have been pretty crazy around here and I haven’t had a lot of free reading time. I read Moon Called, Blood Bound, Iron Kissed, Bone Crossed and Frost Burned. I also re-read Alpha and Omega and Cry Wolf. I got some good UF/Fantasy recs last week, so I’m going to focus on those next.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty hectic week for me with my kid playing basketball all over Los Angeles and Orange County. My days have been spent working and my evenings were in the gym, cheering the Lady Saxons on to victory. I’m going to take credit for all of our wins because I cheered loud. Ha! I did manage to get a book or two read in between work and basketball. I finished Delicious by Sherry Thomas and thought the book was really slow in the beginning and while I enjoyed the ending, that didn’t make up for the slow beginning. I’d give it about a 2.5 because while it was enjoyable, it was really wordy. After that, I started two books but didn’t get much read in one of those books.

I read and finished The Hero by Donna Grant and that book suffered from inappropriate lust that had me rolling my eyes down the street. Just…no. Now, I’m focusing on the other book that I started but didn’t get to. I’m reading Off the Rails by Jill Sorenson and so far, it’s pretty good so I’m hopeful that it’ll stay that way. I trust Jill Sorenson to take care of me and my reading needs.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I only had about 40 minutes of reading time this entire week, so I spent it re-reading part of The Fixer, ha. But next week I’m FINALLY on break and if I don’t get at least some reading time I will be a very cranky lady!

I have Christmas books stacked up, but I am doing a reread of the first 4 books of Jennifer Ashley’s Mackenzies. I love those guys!

    Books recently read include ~

    — Idol by Kristen Callihan; I enjoyed this and look forward to reading more in the series.
    — A Gentleman Never Tells by Eloisa James; this is a historical romance novella that I also enjoyed
    — the historical romance The Untouchable Earl by Amy Sandas. This is the second book I’ve read by this author. Her books have interesting premises; however, I’m somehow left unmoved. Still, I’ve read both books in their entirety, so she’s clearly doing something right.
    — Sustained by Emma Chase which was also enjoyable.
    — Laura Griffin’s Deep Dark (Tracers) which I enjoyed. It’s the most recent book in a romantic suspense series, but I think it would stand alone well.
    — re-read Dream Man by Linda Howard which I first read years ago. It was interesting to see how dated some things now appear; the book was first published in 1994.
    — read with pleasure Well Read, Well Fed; A Year of Great Reads and Simple Dishes for Book Groups by Marcia F. Brown. I’d recommend this book to readers who are not in book groups as well as those who are. It has some good book recommendations as well as a dozen appealing recipes.
    — also read and enjoyed the male/male romance Rented Heart by Garrett Leigh.
    — and The Goal by Elle Kennedy which I enjoyed. While this is the fourth book in a series, it could be read as a stand alone.

I thought I commented last week but apparently I didn’t so here is my list of the last couple weeks. I’ve had some bad migraines that have made reading impossible a lot of days recently so it’s shorter than usual.

The Rogue by Katharine Ashe- Great hero and heroine, sweet romance with a few pacing problems

A Recent Betrothal by Amanda Weaver- A decent read, but my least favorite in the series. The conflict dragged on too long.

Her Naughty Holiday by Tiffany Reisz- I had heard a lot about this author but none of the descriptions of her books really appealed to me until this series. I decided to check it out when my library got the ebook. I loved it! It was exactly what I needed at the time I read it. It was sexy and had great characters, witty banter, and was low conflict.

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware- I’m not a big fan of mysteries with first-person narratives, but I did end up liking this book after getting used to it. It didn’t really draw me in and make me frantic to find out what happens next like a great mystery, but it held my interest.

Sunset in Central Park by Sarah Morgan- This one was okay but it would have benefited from more chemistry between the hero and heroines.

  5. oh Casee I agree….sometimes when I am in a reading slump, the best thing you can do is force yourself to read. Normally I will just pick up some re reading. But Zanetti is one of those authors that I can get into it.

Holly, Good for you doing some good re reading, eventually I plan on reading the Mercy Thompson series.

Rowena….yay for cheering, I swear it can win games hehe Sorry to hear you didn’t like Donna Grant’s book, I haven’t read that one, but I love her PNR.
