What Are You Reading? (303)

WAYR-New

Casee: I’m reading Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti. I haven’t really had the chance to just sit down and read for me. I thought October would be a much better reading month for me than September, but that’s not the case for me so far. I might have to do some rereading to get my reading mojo back.

Holly: I finished catching up Ilona Andrews’ On the Edge series this week. I finished Fate’s Edge and read Steel’s Edge. I enjoyed them both, though not as much of as the first two books in the series. Then I reread The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood, because reasons.

I think I’m going to read Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews next.

Rowena: I finished The Goal earlier this week and then I moved on to P.S. I Like You by Kasie West. I haven’t had much time to get any reading done this week but I’m hopeful that I’ll finish it up tonight and then I’ll be moving on to The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. That book has been getting really good reviews across blogland so I’m excited to jump into it. Wish me luck!

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

Rowena, I just got The Hating Game from the library so I’ll be reading it this weekend. This week I read Act Like It by Lucy Parker (loved it!) and How to Reprimand Your Rock Star by Mina Vaughn which was a fun FemDomme story. I’m pretty sick of BDSM stories but this one had a good hook – the heroine is a freshman varsity basketball player learning how to assert herself, and the hero is a rock star who wants to submit to her. The BDSM was pretty light, mainly rope play. I’m so sick of BDSM stories with an all powerful male Dom and a quivering female sub so it was fun to read a story where the roles were reversed for once.

    — I finished Bitter Legacy by Dal Maclean in two lengthy sittings; I enjoyed it very much. It’s a contemporary mystery set in London and features a detective sergeant who happens to be gay. I did not figure out whodunit and was kept guessing until the end. This is a book I’m going to want to re-read (high praise), and I look forward to reading the author’s next book.
    — I’ve been re-reading Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs.
    — I also re-read Sarina Bowen’s The Year We Fell Down and her novella, Blonde Date.
    — Much of my reading time was spent on The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman for my sister’s book group which will meet Wednesday, the night before I return home. I found it a dense read. It was dense in the sense of meaty; it was complex, detailed, fascinating, and depressing. It seemed well-researched (the setting is primarily in Masada from about AD70 to 75) and the author’s note described what was factual and what had been imagined. It’s a book I would not have finished were it not a book group read; however, I’m happy to have it under my belt.

I have zero time to read now, boo. I’m interested to see what you think of the Hating Game. Seems like everyone and their mother read it and loved it. I am not sure I’ll get to it, given my extremely limited reading time.
