What Are You Reading? (293)

WAYR-New

Casee: I’ve been reading a lot this week. I don’t know what’s gotten into me. I read Dark Carousel by Christine Feehan, which I loved. I haven’t loved a book in the Dark series in quite some time. I just finished The Secrets She Kept by Brenda Novak which was meh, but a fast read.

Today I’m going to start The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward. You guys, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. J.R. Ward is like a trainwreck for me. I can’t stand her, but I can’t stop. She’s like my not-so-secret addiction. I’ve never made it a secret that I just can’t get over her no matter how hard I try. She’s gone so far off course from when I started reading her, but I keep going back for more. Send help.

Holly: Holly has been so busy moving she hasn’t been able to pick up a book. Hopefully next week when things start to settle down. If they settle down.

Rowena: It’s a slow reading week for me. I just haven’t been in the mood to read much and I need that to change because I’m sadly lacking in my Goodreads Reading Challenge. I hope to catch up on that challenge soon. I just finished reading You Before Anyone Else by Julie Cross & Mark Perini. It was a charming NA romance between two models. It was a pleasant surprise of a read for me. Most books centered around young celebrities don’t hit the spot for me but this one did. I really liked it.

I’m going to start my book club book now because book club is next week. I’m going to start reading Back to You by Jessica Scott. I’m super excited to start it too.

Are you reading anything good this week? Share!

  1. Casee needs a JR Ward intervention ! The Bourbon Kings makes me smile because this side of the pond Bourbon is a famous chocolate cookie! You will get more pleasure from scoffing a packet of those than reading that book!

    I’ve recently enjoyed:

    — Impervious (City of Eldrich Book 1) by Laura Kirwan which might appeal to readers of fantasy; it was a pleasure to read a book with a fifty year old heroine instead of the more typical mid-twenties heroine. I’d happily read more by this author.
    — Mary Jo Putney’s most recent historical romance Once a Soldier (Rogues Redeemed)
    — the contemporary romantic suspense novel Intimate by Kate Douglas;
    — Astounding! by Kim Fielding which is an enjoyable contemporary male/male romantic fantasy; it’s one I’ll be re-reading.
    — the 2015 Rainbow Award Honorable Mention title, a contemporary romance featuring two men, and a book I will re-read: Rattlesnake by Kim Fielding
    — Since it’s July, I read a Christmas novella. (It’s Christmas in July!) I was at a thrift store and purchased A Regency Christmas Feast: Five delicious romances and holiday recipes since I saw that it contained a story by Mary Balogh who is one of my favorite authors. The story I read was “The Wassail Bowl”
    — for my book group, (ALERT – this is not a romance despite the title!) Super Sad True Love Story: A Novel by Gary Shteyngart. I did not care for this.
    — the contemporary romance The All-Star Antes Up (Wager of Hearts Book 2) by Nancy Herkness; I enjoyed the first in this series and will read book three when it is published.
    — I several free Kindle short offerings by Megan Derr (Lilacs, The Stable Boy, and Seconds). All are male/male romances.
    — the cyborg romances Being Green (a novella) and Releasing Rage both by Cynthia Sax

    • Holy cow Kareni, you got a lot of reading done. I’m so jealous!

I’m really lucky that my book club reads almost exclusively romance. Every single book we read this year was a romance of some kind. Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Contemporary, Historical, all romance. Just the way that I like it! 🙂

      • Kareni

A book club that reads romance sounds great to me. I believe I’m the only romance reader in my group, so there’s no one there with whom to talk about most of my reading. Oh, well. Good thing you’re here!

  3. I have a book club book I have to read too. Must finish by Wednesday and haven’t started it, LOL. Memory Man by David Balddacci. It looks good. Hopefully I can cruise through it.

    • Get that book read, Jill. Don’t be the lady that didn’t read the book but still shows up at book club and wants to talk about everything under the sun but the book of the month. LOL. As you can tell, my book club has that problem. Ha!
