WAYR-New

Holly: I had a bit more time to read this week. I read Phoenix Reborn by J.D. Tyler, a novella in the Alpha Pack series. It was short but pretty angsty for all that. It was okay. I read Magic Shifts, Magic Tests and Magic Stars. I really like that series. I’m sad that I’m all caught up now. I think I might pick up some of their other books since I’m still in the mood for UF.

I read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata. It was a sports romance. I thought it was really cute, though it could have been about 150 pages shorter. I started Untamed by Emilia Kincade and decided it wasn’t for me. I thought it was a shifter book, and it definitely isn’t. I also started Chase the Darkness by J.D. Tyler, the book that follows Phoenix Reborn, but I need to go back and read the earlier books in the series first. I was totally lost. I’m about 1/4 of the way through Harvest Moon by Lisa Kessler. I may put it aside for now. It isn’t holding my attention. I have a feeling it’s a case of me, not the book.

Aside from the Kate Daniels series, anyone have a good UF series rec?

Rowena: This week, Paper Princess released by Elle Kennedy and Jen Frederick (under their pen name Erin Watt) so I inhaled that book in one sitting. It was filled with so much angst and drama and I could not put it down. It ended with a cliffhanger so I couldn’t really recommend the book to my friends because they hate cliffhangers but they’re planning to read the book once all books have been published. Still, it was a great book.

I also read The Natural History of Us by Rachel Harris which was a cute and satisfying story for Justin. I liked him in The Fine Art of Pretending and was excited to hear he was getting his own book. It was a solid read.

Now I’m jumping back into the Psy-Changeling world. I’m reading Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh and am loving every minute. Why oh why did I wait so long to jump back in? I really could kick myself. After this, I imagine I’ll be reading Blaze of Memory. Ooh, I can’t freaking wait.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I read just two books this week, a new low for me. At least they were both really good. First I reread Play by Kylie Scott. All of the talk about her new book had me jonesing for Mal from Stage Dive. I also read The Undoing by Shelly Laurenston. It was the usual over-the-top craziness from her. Her books always make me laugh and feel good.

    Books read this week include:

    — Anne Bishop’s Daughter of the Blood (Black Jewels, Book 1); this is a far more complex and dark story than her more recent Novel of the Others series. This was her first published book.
    — a re-read of Kristen Ashley’s For You (The ‘Burg Series).
    — and a first read of Hold On (The ‘Burg Series Book 6) by Kristen Ashley.
    — currently reading both Patricia Briggs’ Fire Touched: A Mercy Thompson Novel and Anne Bishop’s latest Novel of the Others.

The only reading I’ve had time for in weeks are Book Binge reviews. Waaaahhhh! 🙁 I’m really looking forward to the end of the school year so I’ll actually have reading time. Come on, summer!

  4. I started Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, by Helen Fielding, and right away I was a little put off by the choppy diary entry style writing. Which I don’t remember bothering me at all when I read the first two books years ago. It sort of made me feel like I had grown and matured since then, but Bridget hasn’t. It also made me nostalgic for the movies, and the first one was available to stream on Netflix so I watched it again one evening after work. I’m about half way through the book now, but I put it on hold to read a NetGalley book, Reserved, by Tracy Ewen. And I’m really glad I did because I’m really enjoying Reserved. I’m loving the characters and there have been some laugh out loud moments.
