MR-New

Rowena: January was a great reading month for me. I’m actually pretty proud of the fact that I read a good chunk of books from my TBR pile. This just might be the year that I actually make a dent in that sucker. Yay me!

Here is what I read in January:

  1. My Kind of Wonderful (Cedar Ridge #2) by Jill Shalvis | 3 out of 5
  2. Alpha & Omega (Alpha & Omega #0.5) by Patricia Briggs | 4.5 out of 5
  3. Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega #1) by Patricia Briggs | 4 out of 5
  4. The Score (Off-Campus #3) by Elle Kennedy | 4.5 out of 5
  5. My American Duchess by Eloisa James | 4 out of 5
  6. Midnight Captive (Killer Instincts #6) by Elle Kennedy | 4 out of 5
  7. Midnight Revenge (Killer Instincts #7) by Elle Kennedy | 4 out of 5
  8. Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson | 4 out of 5
  9. Dare to Run (Sons of Steel Row #1) by Jen McLaughlin | DNF
  10. Roommates by Erin Leigh | 4.25 out of 5
  11. Jock Blocked (Gridiron #2) by Jen Frederick | 4.75 out of 5
  12. The Charlotte Chronicles (Jackson Boys #1) by Jen Frederick | 4 out of 5
  13. Before I Fall (Falling #1) by Jessica Scott | 4 out of 5
  14. Appealed (Legal Briefs #3) by Emma Chase | 4.5 out of 5
  15. Irresistibly Yours (Oxford #1) by Lauren Layne | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Jock Blocked by Jen Frederick because it was such a great read. Entertaining, great characters and a steamy romance? There was a lot to love about that book. Matty and Lucy were a great couple and I’m really loving the world that Frederick has created for this series. I’m mighty interested in seeing where she takes it.

My least favorite read of the month is one that I DNF’d. Dare to Run by Jen McLaughlin was something that I thought I could get into but I got about a third into it before I gave up because the heroine made me roll my eyes all the way to San Francisco and the hero wasn’t any better. It just didn’t work for me so I gave up.

This month you get just me. Holly didn’t read much last month so she doesn’t have much to add to this month’s Monthly Reads post.

This month, we’re giving away:

Jock Blocked by Jen Frederick

Thanks so much for the giveaway!
I’m going to list my favorite reads – APPEALED by Emma Chase, MY AMERICAN DUCHESS by Eloisa James and THE BALLER by Vi Keeland.

I don’t want to list my least favorite b/c I sometimes think I DNF a book b/c I’m just not in the mood for that type of story/trope.

I read quite a bit in January, but nothing that really grabbed me. My favorite read of the month was Dirty Deeds by Megan Erickson. The hero is British and just imagining that accent gets me every time. My least favorite was The Taming of Malcolm Grant by Paula Quinn which I DNF’ed at 10%. I’m not wild about Highlanders, but decided to give this a try because it featured a blind heroine. Unfortunately, neither the author’s writing style, nor the characters appealed to me, so I gave up pretty quickly. It was a library book so I didn’t feel I bad stopping.

Jock Blocked sounds fantastic. Looks like you had a great reading month.

I started my goodreads reading challenge strong in January 🙂 Least fav was Purely Professional by Elia Winters. It wasn’t bad, but felt kinda flat to me. Fav was a tie between The Deal by Elle Kennedy and Act Like it by Lucy Parker. I know, I know, but I tend to read the squee worthy books a looong time behind everyone else. I think it’s b/c I’m afraid of all the hype so I tend to set them aside.

    Jock Blocked sounds enticing!

My favorite new find in January was Dark Horse by Michelle Diener. Favorite re-reads were the Cut and Run series and Sarina Bowen’s Ivy Years series.

Least favorite is always tough for me as if the book was the only thing to read, I suspect I’d finish it. That said, I didn’t finish The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne; even though it had fantastic reviews, it didn’t grab me.

  5. CelineB

My favorite new reads were Act Like It by Lucy Parker and Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson. I had a really good reading month so my least favorite, Need You Always by Marina Adair, was still decent.

Favorite read in January was Love in the Light by Laura Kaye. I did not read any books that I did not like in January.
