Trapped in her own body, she-dragon, Stella Montrose has no choice but to find her mate. Whether he likes it or not, he either has to claim her, or set her free, otherwise she'll lose the ability to shift. Sounds simple, only, every time she gets near him, he disappears.

When Brycen Conners signs on to protect an annoying human woman, he never imagined he'd cross paths with his mate. Once the job is done, he'll do whatever it takes to win her heart. Until then, he has to stay away.

Stella Montrose is giving up.  She knew her mate was in the area but every time she tried to see him he flew away.  She is about to shift into a dragon and if she doesn’t mate first she will never shift back to human.  She decides to let him go after she sees him with a woman and assumes she’s his woman but things don’t go as planned.

Brycen knows that his mate is looking for him but he’s on assignment and wants to finish it before he mates.  He doesn’t plan on being in the pub when Stella gets up to sing and he realizes that she’s about to release him.  He decides to claim her but when things go wrong with his assignment he may not be able to complete the mating in time and Stella might have to live as a dragon.

The overall story in this one was sweet and sexy.  Brycen really wanted to claim his mate but just wanted to get his assignment completed first.  He knew he was being a bit of a bastard for putting his mate off but needed to finish.  I understood having priorities but in this story we never actually got to find out WHY he was protecting the woman and what he did for a living. As far as I could tell from Goodreads and Élianne Adams’ website this isn’t part of a series so that info would have been lovely to have.  I think it would have made me a little happier to know what was so important to Brycen.

Unfortunately we didn’t get much background on Stella either.  We did find out some info about her family and that was nice but other than the fact that she sang in a club once and was gonna turn into a dragon I really knew nothing about her.

The writing was good and kept me interested in the story despite the lack of background info on the H/h.  I would definitely classify this novella as erotica but with some action and a bit of dragon fighting on the side.
