WAYR-New

Holly: I’ve been bad about updating my reading log lately. This may not be a complete list of the books I read this week. It feels like I’m missing something.

I read The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan, which was awesome. It features Ivy’s, from The Friend Zone, younger sister, Fiona and Dez, one of Gray’s teammates from his college team. I really loved it. Then I ended up re-reading The Friend Zone, just because.

Rowena and I read November 9 by Colleen Hoover with the intention of reading it together. That was a ridiculous roller coaster ride of a book. I was all over the damn place. I laughed, I cried, I got so pissed I damn near threw my tablet against the wall. Y’all, that book was fantastic.

Strings Attached by Stephanie Julian is the first book in the Baseline Sins series, which features the members of the band Baseline Sins. It’s a spinoff of another series that I didn’t read. I feel like I missed out on quite a bit by not reading the first series.

I re-read a couple books. On Dublin Street and Castle Hill by Samantha Young and Fairytale Come Alive and Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley.

I DNF’d Raging Sea by Terri Brisbin. I don’t know if it’s the book or me, but I couldn’t get into it. I may try to get back to it later.

Rowena: It was a good reading week for me. I got a lot of reading done and that makes me happy. I read True Devotion and True Divide by Liora Blake. I enjoyed both books, but True Devotion is my favorite book in the entire series. I loved that book so much. Simon Cole completely made that book. Between the gifts, his personality and just him overall, I loved him. Like, a lot.

After I finished that series I read Walk through Fire by Kristen Ashley so that I can review that book with Holly. We’re doing that a lot, reviewing loads of books together but writing reviews with Holly makes me laugh so I’m sure you guys will get a kick out of that. They’re fun. I enjoyed Walk through Fire but holy crap was there a lot of things that made me roll my eyes down the street but I really liked High. I like all of KA’s heroes to be honest. They give sweet good. 🙂

After Walk through Fire, I read November 9 by Colleen Hoover for another joint review with Holly and let me tell you guys….that book wrecked me. It started out so good and then a bunch of shit happens that kicked my ass and it was like it just kept kicking me while I was down. I went to bed not knowing what to do with my life and then I woke up in the morning and was still thinking about that book. Guys, that book!

After that book, I read Game On by Katie McCoy and that book didn’t work for me. At all. I’m still trying to figure out why that book didn’t work for me, I just know that it didn’t. That brings me to now. I’m reading Falling into Bed with a Duke by Lorraine Heath. I have every confidence that book is going to rock my socks. Heath always does. Woot!

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

  1. I am SO JEALOUS that you have already read The Game Plan! I love that series so much (I might be a bit of a Kristen Callihan stalker….). I loved both the Hook Up and The Friend Zone, but I think The Friend Zone is one of my all time favorite books! Cupcake and Special Sauce forever!!!!

    • At one point in The Game Plan Gray calls Ivy Special Sauce and I totally melted. I’m such a sucker.

TGP was really good! I can’t wait for the release so I can discuss it with everyone.

  2. I’m jealous she got to read it already too. I have too many review books to read before the month of October is up before I can dig into any of the books I’ve been looking forward to. Ugh.

Books read this week include ~

    – Death by Silver (Julian Lynes and Ned Mathey series Book 1) by Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold and the sequel A Death at the Dionysus Club. These are historical mysteries with a male/male romance. I’d like to read more, but only two are out.
    – A Bachelor Establishment by Isabella Barclay; this was an enjoyable blend of romance and mystery. It’s a historical romance and quite tame.
    – Melissa F. Olson’s urban fantasy novel Trail of Dead (Scarlett Bernard). This is another series of which I’d like to read more.
    – Fiona Lowe’s contemporary romance Montana Actually (A Medicine River Romance); it was a pleasant read that actually contained two romances.
    – Just finished Heidi Cullinan’s Carry the Ocean which is a male/male new adult romance. I found it to be excellent.

I have a school break week so I actually got to read a few things, including a couple really great old Harlequins I picked up at the thrift store. The best of the reading, though, was the new Jill Shalvis which I really, really liked. I liked it so much I had to go back and reread my favorite from the series too, Animal Attraction. That’s still my favorite (gah, I love Jade and Dell!), but All I Want hit many of the same notes for me.

    • I really liked Parker and Zoe too. Their story was too cute for words and OMG, Dell and Jade. They were great too! I don’t know if I have a favorite of the series though. I like a lot of them.
