MR-New

Holly: We’re a bit late with this. Oops. Maybe I was avoiding it because September was a miserable reading month for me? I read 11 books.  11 isn’t a terrible number, except that I read all 11 of those books in about a week. The rest of the month I read nothing. So depressing.

The Will by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
Shadow’s End by Thea Harrison | 4 out of 5
The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long | 4.25 out of 5
Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh | 4.25 out of 5
Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley | 3.25 out of 5
Soaring by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
Heart of Obsidian by Nalin Singh (re-read | 4.75 out of 5
Own the wind by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4 out of 5
Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4 out of 5
The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite reads of the month were Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh and The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long. Have we been waiting a million years for that book, or what? Okay, a million is an exaggeration, but it’s been nigh on a decade for real, right? I’m glad it lived up to the hype. I really liked Lyon and Olivia (yes, even Olivia).

My least favorite read of the month was probably Walk Through Fire. I didn’t dislike it, necessarily, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as some of the others in the series.

Rowena: Lots and lots of things happened in September. My kid started her junior year in high school. Lots of basketball was played and my job got a lot busier. I still managed to get some reading done so I’m a happy camper.

Here’s what I read:

Finding Perfect by Kendra C. Highley | 4.5 out of 5
Forever Your Earl by Eva Leigh | DNF
Shooting Dirty by Jill Sorenson | 4 out of 5
Dirty Talk by Megan Erickson | 4 out of 5
Vicious Cycle by Katie Ashley | 1.5 out of 5
Redemption Road by Katie Ashley | 1.5 out of 5
Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh | 4.5 out of 5
All I Want by Jill Shalvis | 4 out of 5
Claimed by Elle Kennedy | 4 out of 5
Kill and Tell by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3 out of 5
Sounds like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song by Sara Bareilles | 3 out of 5

My favorite read of the month was hands down Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh. I just adore this series and the characters. I thought Noah and Kit’s story was a good one, it lived up to the hype that I had for it and though I liked Gabe and Charlie’s story a little more, I still really enjoyed Noah and Kit. An honorable mention goes out to Finding Perfect by Kendra C. Highley because that book was adorable too. <3

My least favorite read of the month is Vicious Cycle by Katie Ashley. The hero and the heroine got on my hot damn nerves and I still didn’t even like them all that much in the next book in the series. Ugh, their personalities grated on every single one of my nerves and their romance had potential to be good but they were assholes so I didn’t enjoy those books as much as I thought I would.

This month we’re giving away:

The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long (digital or print, winner’s choice)
Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh (winner’s choice of format)

I’d love to win a copy of Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh.

Fever Pitch by Heidi Cullinan was a recent read that I really enjoyed. Likewise L. A. Witt’s Static. Ooh, and I also re-read My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway which is an old favorite.

Least favorite is always difficult since if a book is not working for me, I tend to put it aside. I’d hoped for more from Chantal Fernando’s Wind Dragon books as I’d seen rave reviews. (Of course, that didn’t stop me from reading three of them!)

    • My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway, why does that sound so familiar to me? I wonder if I’ve read it. Okay, no. I haven’t read this book but holy cow it sounds like a great book.

  2. Favorite read was the entire Psy-Changeling series, which I ripped through. I think “Kiss of Snow” is probably my favorite, though it’s hard to pick when most of them are really great. Least favorite was probably “Unexpectedly Yours” by Jeannie Moon. I picked it up in a sale, and it just didn’t work for me. The voice was odd and the chemistry fell flat, IMO.

I’m excited to try the next addition to the Rock series by Nalini Singh… they’ve been hit or miss for me, but I really liked the second one a lot.

    • Ooh, another fan of the Psy/Changeling series. I haven’t met too many people who read the series and didn’t love it. I need to get back to it since I stopped at Book 5 to get some review books read.

      Good luck!

  3. I didn’t read a lot but they were all fabulous 🙂 My favs were the Martian by Andy Weir and If You Only Knew by Kristan Higgins. My least fav was Devoted in Death. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but it didn’t blow my socks off like I expected from this series. I’m planning on rereading the Rock Series so I’m all fresh to start the newest one 🙂

My favorite for the month was Celtic Moon by Jan DeLima – this is PNR with wolf shifters based on an old Celtic legend. I really liked it and have since read the second book, Summer Moon, which was just as good – really strong heroines in this series. Least favorite was a free book, Rule’s Obsession, by Lynda Chance – it felt totally recycled, like the author was just going down and checking off the tropes. At least it was free. I would love to win Rock Redemption – I’ve read the first chapter and it sounds deliciously angsty.

  5. My favorite of the month is Jayne Castle’s SIREN’S CALL. I don’t have a least favorite this month.

Although both books are on my list to be read, I’d like to win Julie Ann Long’s book.

  6. Anita H.

My favorite read was the last book in the Marriage to a Billionaire series, Jennifer Probst’s The Marriage Merger. I really enjoyed the relationship between Sawyer and Julietta, both had hangups but they had such a strong connection. And I loved the introduction of a young Wolfe, I can’t wait to read his story (Searching for Beautiful).

My least favorite was Eloisa James’ Once Upon a Tower. I was disappointed with this one since I love Fairy Tales series but I just couldn’t get into this one.

I would love to win a copy of Julie Anne Long’s The Legend of Lyon Redmond. I’ve been catching up on this series so I can finally find out what happened to Lyon and Olivia!!!

My favorite of the month was Nora Roberts’ Blood Magick. I love her writing style and was very happy with the ending of this trilogy.

My least favorite was Julia London’s The Secret Life of Lady X. I actually just skimmed the book because it just didn’t make sense to me.

I’m picking Julie Anne Long’s book please! *fingers crossed*
