Not All Scars Heal
For Donovan Pate, the lake town of Evergreen Cove is a minefield of tough memories-including the day he had to let go of Sofie Martin. Years later he still can't forget the taste of her lips and the feel of her killer curves. He knows he's too damaged, that he should stay away for her own good. But what the head says and the heart wants are two very different things . . .
Seven years ago, Donovan broke Sofie's heart. Now her career depends on playing nice in order to pull off the charity fund-raiser of the decade. She vows to keep things professional . . . yet working by his side every day doesn't make it easy to fight temptation, and it isn't long before she finds herself falling for this bad boy all over again. But loving Donovan means helping him face his past-so they can fight for a future together.
Donovan Pate grew up in a mansion but just because his family had money didn’t mean he led a charmed life – the exact opposite in fact. His father was incredibly abusive and his grandmother just ignored everything that was happening in the home.
Now Donovan is back, having inherited the mansion from his now deceased grandmother. He left Evergreen Cove seven years earlier and he doesn’t plan on staying. He wants to clean out the house so that he can sell it to his friend who will then open a B & B. Seeing Sofie Martin wasn’t in his plans. He’s not sure how he would feel after he left her so abruptly after taking her virginity seven years earlier. Their paths cross immediately, however, and the softness and warmth that he remembers from Sofie starts to pull him in again.
Sofie never expected to see Donovan again and she’s not sure how to act around him after what happened in their earlier lives. She does know that he’s still as sexy as hell and he seems to have become a better person. They end up reigniting their passion for each other but Donovan has no plans to stay in Evergreen Cove. Where will this leave Sofie?
Rescuing the Bad Boy was a great follow up to the first novel in this series, Bringing Home the Bad Boy. I loved the whole set up of the novel and the history that Donovan and Sofie had together that added that extra bit of tension.
Donovan rightfully hated the place he’d grown up. He can’t fathom wanting to stay there any longer than he has to but then when he starts making new memories in the house he starts to see things in a different way. Granted it takes him time to pull his head out of his ass but the I loved reading about the journey between the two. I can’t say that I loved Donovan’s nickname for Sofie. When they had worked at a restaurant together when they were younger they had had a incident with shrimp scampi. He started calling her Scampi and it stuck. I get that it was fun and all but the over-usage of the nickname got on my last nerve by the end of the book. There were times I needed him to use her real name as the situation was serious but it didn’t happen. I realize that he did this to try to keep her at arms length for his own reasons but I still found it really annoying.
Sofie was a great character – strong, loyal, loving, intelligent – she really had it all. I thought she was a wonderful match for Donovan and I appreciated her honesty with him.
I also really liked the Charity that Sofie was working with. Donovan house was being used for a Charity dinner and the contract was iron proof and signed before his mother died. The charity was Open Arms who provided emergency shelter and foster care for abused children. I thought the involvement of the charity, knowing Donovan’s past, was a wonderful addition to the story.
Overall I found RtBB to be a great story that had a fantastic blend of sweet and sexy. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
