Holly: I tried reading a whole slew of books this week before I finally gave in and accepted that I wanted to read Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series and nothing else.  I was trying not to glom the series because I didn’t want to burn out, but that’s gone out the window.

I re-read Fairytale Come Alive by Kristen Ashley, which is really angsty and great in the first half, then goes off the rails in the second. I don’t know why I can’t stop reading it (I see you judging me). I also read Black Wolf’s Revenge by Tera Shanley. It was just okay.

Finally I read Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh and  Blaze of Memory, then immediately started Bonds of Justice. I’m hoping after this to slow down and read something else, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Rowena: This week was a slow reading week for me. I blame that on the book that I was reading. I only read one book and the book itself frustrated me because while I was reading it, I wanted to kick myself for wanting the book. While I was reading, I couldn’t help but feel that Penny and Ryan’s story should have ended with The Lonely Hearts Club. Gah. The book that I was reading? We Can Work it Out by Elizabeth Eulberg.

Now, I’m back in the Psy-Changeling world reading Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh. Judd is all kinds of hot. He’s one of those, “Believe the hype” kind of guys. Everyone loves him and you’re scared that he won’t live up to your expectations but he totally does.

What are you reading this week?

  1. *lusty sigh* Judd 😛

I read Laura Griffin’s new one – Beyond Limits and it was everything I had hoped for and more, she hit it out of the ballpark with this one 😀 Great characterisation, sexy bits *blush* and rock solid suspense.

Next up is something by a little known author, although you may have heard of her Holly – Linda er . .*checks ereader* Winfree 😀

    • Jen

Willa, I liked Beyond Limits too! I did have some frustrations but overall I enjoyed it. I thought the sexy bits were extra sexy too. I felt like Griffin’s sex scenes have really improved from her earlier books.

I’m feeling in a bit of a slump now though. I can’t figure out what I really want to read and nothing from my TBR pile had been grabbing me. I don’t like rereading as much as everyone else seems to. If I get the mood I’ll reread something but it’s the exception, not the norm.

      • Glad you enjoyed it – thought Vaughn was swoonworthy! *Drools – and pops on Vaughn button* 😀 I agree re Laura Griffin’s sexy bits – they are muchly improved *fans self*

Sorry to hear about your slump – hope it passes soon . . if you would like a RS recommendation, have you tried Leslie Tentler? Her books are wonderful – she has 4 out, the first 3 are listed as a trilogy – but the only connection between them is that all 3 heroes work for the same FBI dept and have the same boss, so no overlapping main characters and can be read in any order/as standalones – Midnight Caller, Midnight Fear & Edge of Midnight – beware Edge of Midnight is a little gory towards the end but is still fab! If you read them in published order you can see her writing style becoming progressively stronger. Her latest is Fallen – was excellent 😀

    • I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts, Willa. IIRC, the first wasn’t my favorite. I had the first four TBR, so I went on (and I’m glad I did) but I may not have continued otherwise.

(ah, looking through my reviews, it was the prequel I disliked. Book 1 was good, but not great.)

      • Well so far I like her voice = good! I am a little frustrated with Jason though – for a hard bitten FBI Agent he seems a little young and naive. Here we have Jim Ed living waaaaay beyond his means, getting Jason to collect money from businesses (extortion) and being a total skeevy git – and Jason keeps whining in his thoughts about how he is his cousin and shouldn’t he give him the benefit of the doubt? It’s not like they have ever been close and Jim Ed shows no loyalty to Jason. What does he need – a giant sign above Jim Ed’s head saying *crooked cop*??? Yep, that might do it – cos the fact that the FBI have sent him there undercover to root out corruption isn’t enough 😀

I do like Kathleen though . . and Tick 😀

There is enough strength in the writing that I will probably get book 2 – and hope that the niggles are less 😀 How was book 2 for you??

  2. Oh Holly, can I recommend something in contemporary to cleanse your palate?

I know I’ve already sung the praises of Courtney Milan’s Trade Me enough to scare people away (read it, seriously, go, now, read it), but if you want something not NA, I just finished Karina Bliss’ Lost Boys trilogy.

It’s older, and they are available digitally fairly cheap, and oh they are goooooooooood.

All three are actually, but my current favorite is the last one, Mr Unforgettable. Writing the review has been hard because I don’t want to gush all over the place.

(I’m on a streak of good books, which is scaring me a little, frankly)

    • I really loved Bliss’ What the Librarian Did, and I have Rise, book 2, to read for review. For some reason I’ve never read her other novels. I’ll be sure to pick those up.

Sadly, I’m not feeling contemporary romance right now. I think I burned out on them toward the end of the year.
