What Are You Reading? (222)

Holly: It’s been a couple of weeks since we did a roundup. I’m just going to share both weeks here.

Sadly I have little to report from the last week or the one before it. I’m in somewhat of a slump. I’m in the mood for paranormals -shifters, to be exact – but I’m having a hard time finding any that hold my interest.

I read Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs,  which is a collection of short stories set in the Mercy Thompson/Alpha and Omega world. It includes four new novellas as well as five that were previously published. All the stories were really good (especially the prequel to Ariana and Samuel’s story,  which shows Sam and Bran before they broke the hold Bran’s mother had on him) but I was hazy on who some of the characters were, so I’ve been rereading the Mercy Thompson series.

That aside, I read The Killing Moon by V.J. Chambers. The premise is really interesting; werewolf tracker mates to werewolf serial killer while stuck as his captive. Unfortunately it ended in a cliffhanger and there are two more books. Though the premise was interesting and I was intrigued by the strange relationship between them, I have zero desire to read two more books about her suppressing her wolf and angsting over her feelings for a killer.

I tried reading Hungry Moon: Quicksilver by Claudy Conn, but I set it aside after 100 pages. Again, the premise was interesting, but the writing left a lot to be desired. I may try to go back to it someday.

Caged in Winter by Brighton Walsh is a contemporary NA.  Although I enjoyed it, I think I’m approaching contemporary burnout. I was bothered by how slow the story moved and all the internalizing both characters did.

I DNF’d Love’s Last Call by Beth Mathews because it was slow. I hope to go back to it later, though, since I know part of the reason I lost interest is this slump I’m in.

Besides those, I reread two Kristen Ashley novels and that’s it for the month. I really want to read, but nothing is keeping my interest. I may Binge watch some movies until I get over this.

Rowena: I don’t remember what I read last week so I’m not even going to bother with that. This week, I read It’s Not Me, it’s You by Mhairi McFarlane and I really enjoyed it. I’m fast becoming a fan of hers as she writes my kind of romances. The kind that hits me in the feels. Adam and Delia most definitely hit me in the feels.

I tried starting Even in Paradise by Chelsea Philpot but I didn’t get very far before I was distracted by other things so instead of starting it again, I picked up Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover by Sarah MacLean.  I’d be surprised if you were surprised that I’m already loving this book because I always love Sarah MacLean books and this one is no different.

What are you reading this week? You can tell us what you read last week too since we skipped (sorry!). Let’s gab!
