What Are You Reading? (217)

wayr-bigHolly: I thought I read quite a bit this week (it felt like I did). Looking at my reading log, either I forgot to log some reads or I didn’t read as much as I thought.

Riding Dirty by Jill Sorenson is the start of a new erotica series about Dirty Eleven, an outlaw motorcycle club. I really loved the hero and the basic premise. I struggled with the heroine, but I wasn’t able to put it down. I love Sorenson’s voice.

Sommersgate House by Kristen Ashley is one I picked up on a whim. I wanted to read a KA but I was tired of all the ones I’d already read. It was pretty cheesy in places, but it really liked it. It read like a more toned-down version of other KA books. More traditional, if you will. I’m glad I read it.

Best Kind of Broken by Chelsea Fine is a NA I’d heard good things about. The story was angst-filled and kind of dramatic, but it read less like NA and more like YA. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I expected I would. I bet Rowena will love it.

Her Dakota Man by Lisa Mondello is a free read I picked up because it’s set in South Dakota, where I grew up. Sometimes I get homesick, you know?  I didn’t get the connection to home I was looking for and the story was just okay. I didn’t dislike it, but it wasn’t one I was really pulled into, either.

I re-read Mystery Man and Wild Man by Kristen Ashley. I re-read all her books, but I only read this series (with the exception of Motorcycle Man) once. I decided to read them to see if my feelings about them had changed (I remember not liking them much at all the first time around). MM was still pretty bad, but I ended up enjoying WM more than I expected. I was still pretty annoyed with Brock in the beginning, but by the halfway mark I was full immersed. It was the heroine’s sense of humor that really did it for me. I laughed out loud at her several times.

I also re-read Playing for Keeps by R.L. Mathewson. I read this at some point last year or earlier this year, but forgot to record it in my log so I can’t say for sure when. I remembered something about the hero being all possessive of the food the heroine makes for him and calling anyone who tried to steal it a bastard. Which seemed kind of creepy to me. It was kind of cute in places, but the hero acted really immature for most of the book and the end was drawn out way too long.

Last night I re-read The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan so I can review it with Rowena. I really love that book. I can’t wait to discuss it.  I also re-read Heart of Fire by Linda Howard. I adore that book. Ben and Jillian are two of my favorite LH characters. I may end up reading more LH now.

Okay, so it appears I read quite a bit this week.

Rowena: Damn. That’s a lot of reading, Holly. I didn’t get nearly that much reading done. This week, I read The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan and really liked it. It was such a cute NA story and I can’t wait to discuss it with Holly in a joint review for the blog. Drew Baylor was seriously hot stuff. I loved him. I cannot wait for Gray’s story.

I also did some re-reading myself. I re-read Unspoken by Jen Frederick and holy goodness, I loved Bo Randolph all over again. There’s something about him that just gets me every time. I also re-read Wait for You by J. Lynn and Before You Break by Christina Lee. As you can see, I’m in a NA kick. I get enough.

Right now, I’m finishing up Stay with Me by J. Lynn and am really enjoying it. Jax? I adore him. I can’t wait to see how this whole story comes together and then afterward, I’m thinking of picking up Wild by Sophie Jordan. Keep the NA good time rolling.

  1. Rita Wray

I just finished the book Tender Touch by Tanya Stowe last night. Today I started reading Forever Dreams by Leeanna Morgan on my Kindle.

  2. I re-read Thread of Fear and Whisper of Warning by Laura Griffin. Next up is Larissa Iones new vampire book – Chained By Night.

    • I may start Chained by Night this weekend as well. I’m trying to decide if I need to re-read Bound by Night, first. I’m hazy on some of the details, so I might skim through if nothing else.
