Well guys, this is the end of the road for the Lucky Harbor books and I think that Jill Shalvis ended the series on a high note. This book made me laugh, it made me sigh and it made me a little sad because I adore this series and am always looking forward to new books in this series coming out so now that I have devoured this book, there won’t be anymore books for me to look forward to. 🙁
But back to this book….it was great. Another great addition to an already stellar series. Tanner and Callie were great characters and their romance had me grinning like a schoolgirl with a silly crush. This was a fast read for me (come to think of it, all of Shalvis’ books are fast reads for me) and it took me no time at all to fall into the story and right back in with the folks of Lucky Harbor. I love how Shalvis always includes the folks of Lucky Harbor, characters that we’ve come to know and love throughout the series always come back in every book and I just love it. I love seeing that the characters from the first few books came back in this book and played little roles in the story. It was good to see Sawyer and Chloe, it’s always good to see Lance and Jack. Shalvis really shines in writing these small town romances because even though there were 12 books in this series, each book stood out differently for me and this book was no different.
One in a Million follows Tanner Riggs and Callie Sharpe as they make that journey toward their happy ending. Their journey was filled with laughter, sadness and a whole lot of romance.
Tanner Riggs was the big football star in high school who didn’t take the college scholarship he got but instead enlisted in the Navy to support his high school sweetheart and the baby he put in her. He also married the same high school sweetheart and then was served divorce not too long afterward. Being in the Navy and then working for the oil rigs took Tanner away from home a lot so he missed a lot of quality time with his son, Troy but now that Troy is a teenager, he no longer wants to spend any kind of quality time with his Dad. On top of being a father, Tanner is part owner of Lucky Harbor Charters and he runs the fishing and boating and scuba diving trips that their clients order. His partners Sam Brody and Cole Donovan are both in relationships and Tanner is not. But when he starts having breakfasts with Callie Sharpe, things start to look up for Tanner. His life changes, anyway.
Callie Sharpe used to have the biggest crush on Tanner Riggs but she never made it onto his radar. But when she comes back into her hometown of Lucky Harbor and Tanner Riggs himself befriends her, she’s thrown for a loop. She’s got a good life. She owns her own wedding planning business. She has a good relationship with her grandmother and she’s making great friends in her neighbors Becca and Olivia. And she’s got good eye candy to oogle every day, living so close to Lucky Harbor Charters. What more could she possible want?
Tanner Riggs, of course.
Seeing the two of these characters come together was great fun. Jill Shalvis did a wonderful job of making me connect with both Tanner and Callie and she had me cheering these two on from the very beginning. I love that her characters are such normal people. She could be telling us stories of people that I know in real life and I love that. I love that both Tanner and Callie are dealing with real life issues. Tanner is trying to build a bond with his young son and Callie is trying to take care of her grandmother and build a life for herself. They both don’t have any clues on how to go about doing that but you see the two of them grow as the stor progresses and you become invested.
I really enjoyed this book and I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m sad that this series is going away but I will definitely be re-reading the heck out of these books over the years. I definitely recommend this book.
