Rowena’s review of Necessary Force (K-9 Rescue #.5) by D.D. Ayres.

It was supposed to be a sexy calendar shoot to raise money for K-9 service dogs. Photographer Georgie Flynn never expected to break all her personal rules and jump into bed with one of the hunky men posing. And after their steamy night together, she certainly never expected to see him again…despite their powerful connection.

When she’s targeted by a stalker and possible bomber, Georgie finds that her gorgeous one-night stand is the only one who can help.

Brad Lawson, an FBI operative, and his K-9 bomb sniffing partner are assigned to protect the pretty photographer–and this time, he’s determined to keep things professional. He just didn’t count on their explosive connection rekindling. But with a deadly threat on the horizon, will he be able to keep his body’s demands in check and complete his mission?

This was a novella introducing readers to the K-9 Rescue world and I thought it was a pretty great introduction. It’s a story with not a lot of pages so the story jumped off quickly and I liked that.  The story starts off with the hero and the heroine meeting and then the hero disappearing, only to show up months later and not at all who the heroine thought he was.

Georgie is a photographer who was back in her hometown doing a photo shoot of man candy for a calendar a friend was putting together.  That’s where she meets Phillip Dexter and his cute canine partner, Zander. He’s interested in her and doesn’t shy away from that.  He talks her into getting drinks with him and then a couple of hours later, they’re knocking boots before he disappears from her life.  At least she got some pictures for her memory book, right?  Right.

But when Phillip Dexter shows up at her house after it’s been ransacked, being introduced as Brad Lawson, Georgie is all kinds of confused and pissed.

The chemistry that was sizzling between them the first time around are still there and I liked the way that D.D. Ayres brought these two together.  I thought Ayres did a great job of pulling me into the story and making me care about the characters.  I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series as it promises to be more of the same as this book.

Both Georgie and Brad were solid characters. I liked that when they come together again, Georgie is pissed and doesn’t hide that fact from Brad and I liked that Brad had his reasons for his lies.  Things between them were interesting and they were hot and I was on board with their romance.  So yeah, I’m in for the next book.
