When Hannah Nichols last saw Marco D’Alessandro five long years ago, he broke her heart. The bad boy with a hidden sweet side was the only guy Hannah ever loved—and the only man she’s ever been with. After one intense night of giving in to temptation, Marco took off, leaving Scotland and Hannah behind. Shattered by the consequences of their night together, Hannah has never truly moved on.

Leaving Hannah was the biggest mistake of Marco’s life—something he has deeply regretted for years. So when fate reunites them, he refuses to let her go without a fight.  Determined to make her his, Marco pursues Hannah, reminding her of all the reasons they’re meant to be together....

But just when Marco thinks they’re committed to a future together, Hannah makes a discovery that unearths the secret pain she’s been hiding from him—a secret that could tear them apart before they have a real chance to start over again....

Hannah fell in love with Marco when she was 14.  They became friends but even though Hannah wanted to be his girlfriend over the years it never actually happened.  When she was 17 she went to a party and Marco was there.  He didn’t want her involved with the lowlifes that were at the party so he took her to his room (yes, he was one of the roommates) and they ended up sleeping together.  Right after, Hannah told Marco that she loved him and he looked at her with a horrified look on his face and left the room. She never heard from him again.
Now it’s five years later and Hannah is shocked when she sees Marco at the wedding of one of her friends.  Marco makes an effort to talk to her but Hannah wants nothing to do with him.  He ends up almost stalking her trying to get her to talk to him but she refuses.  Once she gives in she hears from Marco that he left the country the day after they slept together because of a death in the family.  She’s pissed when she finds out that he’s been back in Scotland for 4 years and never contacted her. She eventually agrees to be friends with him but nothing more.  He doesn’t give up on her and soon works his way back into her life.  When she finds out the secret he’s keeping it’s a deal breaker for her and again she wants nothing to do with him.  The problem is that she fell back in love with him and it’s breaking her heart all over again to let him go.
We read this story from Hannah’s pov and I was definitely sad at times that we didn’t get Marco’s insights.  I think that would have been awesome, although Young did a good job of showing us his emotions.
Hannah, in this story, wasn’t my favorite.  I loved her and Marco together but that girl had some serious issues that I’m not sure were resolved by the end of the book. She had some series health problems soon after Marco left and her issues with Marco dealt with the fact that he wasn’t there for her when she needed him.  My problem was with the fact that she was punishing him for not contacting her for 4 years but she never sat and realized that even had he contacted her he still wasn’t there for her in her time of need.Marco seemed like a good guy.  He was good to Hannah even when he felt he wasn’t good enough for her and I pretty much adored the man he had turned into.  I was sad for him when Hannah pushed him away but was so happy when he didn’t give up on her.

We also get to catch up with the characters from previous books and since it’s been a while since they all got together there are children involved.  I admit to having a hard time keeping them all straight but it was all good.

Though this story had a ton of angst – and I do mean a ton – it was really good.  I thought the characters were well written and extremely realistic.  The story flowed well and kept me more than engaged.  Just a darned good book.
