BtBOBetter When He’s Bad by Jay CrownoverRowena: It’s another fantastic month of new releases and book lovers like us are always salivating for more. Here are the books that Holly and I are anxious to add to our shelves.

Better When He’s Bad by Jay Crownover

Welcome to the Point

There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.

Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.

Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

Holly: I enjoyed Crownover’s previous series and look forward to taking this next step with her. This book seems to be a bit darker than her others. We’ll see how it goes.

Vixen in Velvet by Loretta ChaseVixen in Velvet by Loretta Chase

From the Diary of Leonie Noirot: The perfect corset should invite its undoing . . .

Lethally charming Simon Fairfax, Marquess of Lisburne, has reluctantly returned to London for one reason only: a family obligation. Still, he might make time for the seduction of a certain redheaded dressmaker—but Leonie Noirot hasn’t time for him. She’s obsessed with transforming his cousin, the dowdy Lady Gladys, into a swan.

Leonie’s skills can coax curves—and profits—from thin air, but his criminally handsome lordship is too busy trying to seduce her to appreciate her genius. He badly needs to learn a lesson, and the wager she provokes ought to teach him, once and for all.

A great plan, in theory—but Lisburne’s become a serious distraction, and Leonie’s usual logic is in danger of slipping away as easily as a silk chemise. Could the Season’s greatest transformation be her own?

Holly: I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like ages. This is the third and final book in Chase’s Dressmakers series. This one can’t show up on my Nook soon enough.

Rowena: Like Holly, I have been waiting for this book to come out.  I adored the first two books in the series and cannot wait to start this one.

Cowboy Take Me Away by Lorelei JamesCowboy Take Me Away by Lorelei James

The final Rough Riders book.

Settle in for the hot McKay romance that started it all…

The moment Carson McKay saw the sexy blonde at the dance hall, he wanted to throw her over his saddle and gallop hell-bent toward the closest church. Given his reputation as a lover and a fighter-not necessarily in that order-it wasn’t surprising she gave him the cold shoulder. But he hadn’t expected the mean right hook when he tried to steal a kiss.

Carolyn West might look sweet and innocent, but she’s no fool. The good-looking cowboy with the heart-stopping smile didn’t really want to marry her; he just wanted to take her for a test ride. But when he kisses her a second time, she doesn’t fight her burning attraction to him…until she learns he’s one of the McKay cowboys she’s been warned about.

Carson doesn’t care about the long-standing feud between their families; he knows that Carolyn was meant to be his. And the more intimate they become, the more Carolyn sees the real man behind the wild cowboy reputation-a man who wants the same forever kind of love she does…and who will lead her into a love story that spans fifty years.

Warning: Crazy, hot, sexy and sweet–good girl meets bad boy cowboy and they prove lust can last a lifetime.

Holly: I haven’t read all the Rough Riders books, but I enjoyed those I did. I’m sorry to see the series come to an end but anxious to read the conclusion.

Burn for Me by Lauren BlakelyBurn for Me by Lauren Blakely

She’s the one fire he can’t put out…

Jamie Lansing has had it bad for firefighter Smith Grayson for as long as they’ve been friends. Yes, he’s ridiculously charming and she might stare a little too long at his abs, but his dirty-talking, rough-around-the-edges ways aren’t for her. Plus, she knows that as a serial dater, Smith isn’t the type to settle down. But then a terrible, fantastic, mind-blowing mistake leaves her body craving more than one night.

Smith Grayson has only ever had eyes for one woman in town—his best friend Jamie. But convincing her a relationship between them will work is next to impossible with her refusing to see beyond his past. But when she asks for a week of no-strings-attached sex to get him out of her system, Smith knows this is his one chance to prove he’s not just the man she needs in her bed, but the man she needs in her life.

Holly: Dirty-talking Firefighters? Check. Friends-to-Lovers? Unrequited love? Check Check.. Holly’s preordering?  COME TO MAMA.

Pia Saves the DayPia Saves the Day by Thea Harrison

It’s going to take more than a penny to fix this…

Holly: Isn’t it time for a new full-length Elder Races book? I think it is. Until such time as one magically arrives in my hands,  I’ll content myself with this novella. Somehow.

Kiss Me Like This by Bella AndreKiss Me Like This by Bella Andre

Sean Morrison, one of six siblings and the top college baseball player in the country, is reeling from a heartbreakingly painful loss. Nothing seems to matter anymore…until the night Serena Britten unexpectedly ends up in his arms.

But when the pressures of her high-profile modeling career only get bigger and more demanding, will it make living a normal life as a college student—and falling in love with the hottest guy on campus—impossible?

Holly: I have a hit-and-miss relationship with Andre’s books.  This premise of this one intrigues me, but I’m going into it with reservations.

Count on Me by Lauren DaneCount on Me by Lauren Dane

Petal is the last place Caroline Mendoza thought she’d end up. Sixteen years ago she lost both parents there—her mother to murder and her father to prison for the crime. Since then she’s built a successful life, but she’s never let go of the belief her father is innocent.

Now she’s back in Petal to find the truth. With a new job and a mystery to solve, she’s got plenty on her plate. But when she bumps into Royal Watson, the sparks fly hard and fast.

When the whipsmart, opinionated lawyer blows into town like a beautiful storm, Royal has a reason to make the time to get off his organic farm and pursue her. And soon their intense attraction is tipping into something more.

As Caroline’s dogged investigation digs up ghosts of the past, there’s not much time for basking in love’s glow. The closer she gets to the truth, the more threatened the real killer gets…and the greater the danger that all her digging could lead to her own grave.

Holly: Dane is a master at writing strong female leads and their perfect counterparts. I really loved this book. Every part of it worked for me. The small town setting, the independent heroine, the hero who supports her when she needs it and stands in front of her when he feels it’s necessary. Loved. Loved Loved. BUY IT!

The Virgin’s Guide to Misbehaving by Jessica ClareThe Virgin’s Guide to Misbehaving by Jessica Clare

Playing innocent is easy.

She’s done keeping to herself and staying out of trouble—it’s time to break out of her shell and maybe meet someone intriguing in the process. So, on a photography trip to Bluebonnet, she has a whole lot more on her mind than snapping photos, especially when Rome walks into the picture.

Playing dirty is fun.

The newest instructor at Wilderness Survival Expeditions has a colorful past, to say the least. Having come from a family of notorious con artists that destroyed his credit and reputation, all before his eighteenth birthday, Rome just wants a decent job and a quiet life in a town where no one knows his name. He’s exactly the kind of bad boy that an innocent girl like Elise should stay far away from.

But Elise is tired of doing what’s right. She’s ready to throw caution to the wind—and let Rome show her just how exciting being bad can be…

Holly: Over the past year, Clare has really become a go-to author for me when I want light, fun contemporary novels. I’m really looking forward to this release.

Losing Control by Jen FrederickLosing Control by Jen Frederick

I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian’s whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that’s okay.

Holly: I really enjoyed Frederick’s Woodlands series, but I’m on the fence about this one after reading the blurb. Revenge plots aren’t a favorite for me. Still, I’m willing to give it a try.

Rowena: I liked the Woodlands series as well so I’m looking forward to giving this one a go.

Holly: This is the final installation in Brook’s serial. She has been torturing us for weeks with these short releases. I’m happy to say it was worth it, though. For those of you waiting until all parts are available, this is your queue to go forth and buy.

Holly: I’m still ridiculously behind in this series. I’m fairly certain I stopped around book 5? That hasn’t stopped me from buying each release when it comes out, however. Early reviews for this book are looking good. I’m sure it’ll be another winner.

Men of Smithfield Sam and Aaron by L.B. GreggMen of Smithfield: Sam and Aaron by L.B. Gregg

A never-before-published Men of Smithfield book

Signed up for the class is our new guest, Aaron Saunders, a Californian transplant who’s distractingly handsome and clearly up to no good. I can’t quite figure him out. He blew into town and has been relentless in his search for…something.

The sexy sneak is intriguing. And we’ve had a steamy moment. Or two. But now I can’t stop wondering why he’s searching in secret. From the library, to the historical society, to my own backyard, Aaron leaves no stone unturned or record book unopened. He’s definitely gotten my attention. But that might not be the only thing he’s after.

Holly: Another Men of Smithfield book? WIN! This is a great series. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Smithfield and the men who live there.

Rowena: I want to try this series out. I love the author and am going to dive right into this series, starting with this one.

Air Bound by Christine FeehanAir Bound by Christine Feehan

The sisters of Sea Haven, bound by the heart and the magical power of the elements, return in this soul-stirring new novel from Christine Feehan, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Spirit Bound…

Air Bound

For as far back as she can remember, Airiana Ridell has always been aware of her extraordinary gift. She can intuit revealing and illuminating “patterns” in the air around her–whether in a spray of mist, in billowing clouds, or in the dense swirls of an impenetrable fog. Her abilities led to her placement in a secret government training facility when she was a child, but everything changed after her mother was murdered.

Airiana fled the program, but she couldn’t outrun the desperate members of a shadowy cabal who want her, who need her, who will kill to get her. Kidnapped and held aboard a ship bound for dangerous seas, her only chance for rescue is Maxim Prakenskii. He has his reasons for helping her, but he isn’t about to reveal them to Airiana. Not yet. Not as the two are drawn together as moth to flame. Not when there are so many secrets yet untold that could shatter the quaint community of Sea Haven and all who reside there “

Holly: I didn’t love the last book in this series, but I really enjoyed Air Bound. It had a surprising amount of humor and the plot, while not new by Feehan standards, held up pretty well. I wish she released these books on a faster schedule.

Tomorrow, Cassie will think about her father. Tomorrow, she’ll think about her future. But tonight is for herself and the hottie she found on dance floor. It’s a matchup made in heaven—if only for a night…

Holly: The premise of this one intrigued me. Hot quarterback, prodigal daughter, sexy-times? Win! Unfortunately it wasn’t executed as well as I’d anticipated. The heroine’s family needed a swift kick in the pants and the pacing was kind of slow at times, but it was still worth the read.

Rowena: Even though Holly didn’t enjoy this book as much as she hoped she would, I still want to read this one. It sounds like a good one.

Dorinda and the Doctor by Sabrina JeffriesDorinda and the Doctor by Sabrina Jeffries

From their very first kiss, Santiago rattles Lila’s neatly ordered world. But can a lioness who’s always lived to please everyone else risk everything to please herself?

Rowena: I’m not a fan of the whole “big secret” plot in romance novels but I’ve got to say that I’m curious about this one. I’ve read Barth before and enjoyed her work so I’m thinking I need to check this one out.

scandal sarah ockler#scandal by Sarah Ockler

Lucy’s learned some important lessons from tabloid darling Jayla Heart’s all-too-public blunders: Avoid the spotlight, don’t feed the Internet trolls, and keep your secrets secret. The policy has served Lucy well all through high school, so when her best friend Ellie gets sick before prom and begs her to step in as Cole’s date, she accepts with a smile, silencing about ten different reservations. Like the one where she’d rather stay home shredding online zombies. And the one where she hates playing dress-up. And especially the one where she’s been secretly in love with Cole since the dawn of time.

When Cole surprises her at the after party with a kiss under the stars, it’s everything Lucy has ever dreamed of… and the biggest BFF deal-breaker ever. Despite Cole’s lingering sweetness, Lucy knows they’ll have to ’fess up to Ellie. But before they get the chance, Lucy’s own Facebook profile mysteriously explodes with compromising pics of her and Cole, along with tons of other students’ party indiscretions. Tagged. Liked. And furiously viral.

By Monday morning, Lucy’s been branded a slut, a backstabber, and a narc, mired in a tabloid-worthy scandal just weeks before graduation.

Lucy’s been battling undead masses online long enough to know there’s only one way to survive a disaster of this magnitude: Stand up and fight. Game plan? Uncover and expose the Facebook hacker, win back her best friend’s trust, and graduate with a clean slate.

There’s just one snag—Cole. Turns out Lucy’s not the only one who’s been harboring unrequited love…

Rowena: I’ve been wanting to read this book ever since I found out about it and it was another enjoyable book by Ockler so I definitely recommend.

the truth about aliceThe Truth about Alice by Jennifer Mathieu

Everyone has a lot to say about Alice Franklin, and it’s stopped mattering whether it’s true. The rumors started at a party when Alice supposedly had sex with two guys in one night. When school starts everyone almost forgets about Alice until one of those guys, super-popular Brandon, dies in a car wreck that was allegedly all Alice’s fault. Now the only friend she has is a boy who may be the only other person who knows the truth, but is too afraid to admit it. Told from the perspectives of popular girl Elaine, football star Josh, former outcast Kelsie, and shy genius Kurt, we see how everyone has a motive to bring – and keep – Alice down.

Rowena:  This book sounds really good.  I’m in.

the things you kiss goodbyeThe Things You Kiss Goodbye by Leslie Connor

Bettina Vasilis can hardly believe it when basketball star Brady Cullen asks her out, and she just about faints when her strict father actually approves of him.

But when school starts up again, Brady changes. What happened to the sweet boy she fell in love with? Then she meets a smoldering guy in his twenties, and this “cowboy” is everything Brady is not—gentle, caring, and interested in getting to know the real Bettina.

Bettina knows that breaking up with Brady would mean giving up her freedom—and that it would be inappropriate for anything to happen between her and Cowboy. Still, she can’t help that she longs for the scent of his auto shop whenever she’s anywhere else.

When tragedy strikes, Bettina must tell her family the truth—and kiss goodbye the things she thought she knew about herself and the men in her life.

Leslie Connor has written a lyrical, heartbreaking, and ultimately hopeful story about family, romance, and the immense power of love.

Rowena: This sounds like a good read.  The perfect boyfriend vs. the forbidden one. Yep, I’m all about it…especially since this isn’t a teacher/student story.

don't you forget about meDon’t You Forget About Me by Alexandra Potter

After a bad break up, doesn’t every girl want the same things?

* For her ex-boyfriend to stay single forever…
* Or maybe emigrate, to a remote, uninhabited island?
* Better still, that she’d never met him in the first place!

But what if one of those wishes came true?

Tess is heartbroken when Seb breaks up with her and can’t help blaming herself. If only she’d done things differently. If only she could make right all her regrets… But she can’t. It’s over. She has to forget about him. Drunk and upset on New Year’s Eve she wishes she’d never met him.

But when she wakes up to discover this dream has come true, she realises she has a chance. To do it all over again. And to get it right this time…

Rowena: Hmm, this one sounds like an interesting read.  I mean, making a wish about never meeting your now ex-boyfriend and then the wish coming true…I think I wouldn’t want to go through everything all over again but Tess thinks differently. I’m curious about this one so I’m in.

17 First Kisses

17 First Kisses by Rachael Allen

No matter how many boys Claire kisses, she can’t seem to find a decent boyfriend. Someone who wouldn’t rather date her gorgeous best friend, Megan. Someone who won’t freak out when he learns about the tragedy her family still hasn’t recovered from. Someone whose kisses can carry her away from her backwoods town for one fleeting moment.

Until Claire meets Luke.

But Megan is falling for Luke, too, and if there’s one thing Claire knows for sure, it’s that Megan’s pretty much irresistible.

With true love and best friendship on the line, Claire suddenly has everything to lose. And what she learns—about her crush, her friends, and most of all herself—makes the choices even harder.

In her moving debut, Rachael Allen brilliantly captures the complexities of friendship, the struggles of self-discovery, and the difficulties of trying to find love in high school. Fans of Sarah Ockler, Susane Colasanti, and Stephanie Perkins will fall head over heels for this addictive, heartfelt, and often hilarious modern love story.

Rowena: This was an interesting read that went in directions I wasn’t expecting. It’s not a bad read.
