It Happened One Wedding
Rowena’s review of It Happened One Wedding (FBI/US Attorney #5) by Julie James.

SHE KNOWS BETTER THAN TO SAY “I DO”

After a humiliating end to her engagement, investment banker Sidney Sinclair is done with commitment-phobic men. But when her sister winds up engaged after a whirlwind courtship, she’s thrown in to close contact with exactly the kind of sexy playboy she wants to avoid – the gorgeous best man. She’s stuck with him, for better or worse, until her sister walks down the aisle, but that doesn’t mean she has to give in to his smooth advances, no matter how tempting they are …

BUT HE MAKES IT HARD TO SAY “I DON’T”

Special Agent Vaughn Roberts always gets his man on the job and his woman in bed. So Sidney’s refusal to fall for his charms only makes him more determined to win over the cool and confident redhead. Only what starts out as a battle of wills ends up as a serious play for her heart. Because the onen woman who refuses to be caught may be the only one Vaughn can’t live without…

Every year, I look forward to reading the new Julie James book because I know that she’s going to entertain the socks off of me and every year, she doesn’t disappoint. This year isn’t any different. I’ve been looking forward to reading this book and the minute that I had it in my hands, the book was cracked open and devoured.

I’ve been following Julie James various social media profiles, reading any scrap I could find on her progress as she wrote this book because I was greedy for information. I knew that this book was a lot harder for her to write then her other books but as a reader, I wouldn’t have been able to tell. This book was so easy to fall into that I finished it in no time.

Sidney Sinclair is done with playboys. She’s done with guys who will not commit to a lasting relationship so smooth talkers need not apply. When she meets Vaughn Roberts, she sees everything that she doesn’t want in him…but when she finds out that she’s stuck with him until after his brother and her sister’s wedding is done, she’s not happy. She’s not happy because the more time she spends with him, the harder it’s getting for her to stick to her guns. He’s a whole lot of temptation that she doesn’t want to deal with.

Vaughn Roberts doesn’t hide the fact that he loves women. He loves spending time with women and he loves that being a single guy means that he can sleep with any woman he wanted, any time that he wanted. There’s never been a woman who didn’t want to sleep with Vaughn so when he meets Sidney and hits on her, he’s surprised when she turns him down. He’s even more surprised when she shows up as the sister of his brother’s new fiancee’.

I had a lot of fun watching these two battle wits and then fight their attraction to each other. I really loved watching them fall for each other because it didn’t happen fast. It wasn’t love at first sight, it happened slowly, over time and when they stopped fighting the chemistry blasting them at every turn, I loved watching them take the full tumble from friends with benefits to being in love with each other.

What I like most about Julie James books, after the steamy romance of course, is the cast of secondary characters. They’re not background characters that are more filler than anything else. They’re just as well rounded as the main characters and I always come away from her books, loving the hell out of them. Vaughn’s brother, Simon? LOVED HIM. Sidney’s sister, Isabelle? ADORED HER. I even squealed in delight when Tyler came onto the scene. Because I remembered him…playing racquetball with J.D. Jameson in Practice Makes Perfect.

There’s much to like with this book. I can’t even remember anything that I didn’t like. I loved it all. Julie James has done it again. She’s made me fall in love with even more of her characters and she’s got me thirsty for so much more. If you’re looking for a good time, read this book. You won’t regret it. You’ll regret not reading it, I promise.

You remember Practice Makes Perfect better than I do, and that was my favorite Julie James (is my favorite Julie James so far!) but you made me want to read it.

I think I’m one book behind in this series, so I need to rectify that!
Thanks for the lovely, lovely review, Rowena 😀

    • I really liked that one, too. This was a good one, I really enjoyed it and I’m sure that you will too.

Thanks for always reading them, Alex. 🙂
