Review: Reaper’s Legacy by Joanna Wylde

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart-and her virginity-to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.

She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious-her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands-with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club-to give them a better life.

Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way.

Sophie thought herself madly in love with her boyfriend Zach so she decided to let him have her virginity. She never expected it to be so painful or to have Zach’s brother, Ruger, walk in on them. She especially didn’t expect to have the condom break and become a teen mom at the tender age of 16, but that’s what happened.

Sophie found out pretty quickly that Zach wasn’t who she thought he was. He was mean, controlling and possessive. Luckily Ruger was around and was able to help Sophie through the birth of her son, Noah, and for all the years afterward.

Now Noah is 7 years old and Sophie has to end up leaving him with her neighbor as all of her trusted babysitters are down with the flu. Unfortunately for her the neighbor ended up being majorly bad news and Sophie got a call from Noah begging her to come home. Noah also managed to contact Ruger and the smart little boy saved himself from some bad people.

Ruger’s not happy about Sophie leaving Noah with her neighbor and he’s really not thrilled with Sophie’s living situation. He immediately takes over and moves Sophie and Noah to his home Coeur d’Alene (they lived in Seattle, WA) where he has a home in which the basement is like its own apartment. While Sophie’s not thrilled at the move but she knows that Ruger’s correct in the fact that her previous living condition was unacceptable. She’s not thrilled because she likes being independent but also because she has feelings for Ruger and the farther away she lives the better she’s able to deal with those feelings

Living with Ruger proves be too much for Sophie. She hates thinking about Ruger with other women and while she thinks the Reapers MC is fine for Ruger she wants nothing to do with it for her or Noah. She eventually moves out after sleeping with Ruger and him telling her he wants to claim her – but also telling her he can’t promise to be faithful. Uh, no. That won’t work at all. Ruger tries hard to get Sophie to understand him, his feelings for her and the MC in general and how they work but Sophie’s closed off her acceptance and is determined to live life without Ruger. Yeah, that didn’t exactly work out like she planned.

Another good book from Joanna Wylde! I really loved Reaper’s Property and so I was really looking forward to reading Reaper’s Legacy and I’m so glad I did. The story, while not quite as good as book 1, imho, was still damned good.

I really liked Ruger in this book. Sure, he was messed up when it came to the ladies as he slept around constantly but when it came to Sophie he was determined to do what was best for her and Noah. I believe he really thought of Noah as his own child and I loved that he’d claimed him like that. He was bossy, that’s for sure, but he never really made decisions without thinking things over first. He had a great head on those sexy shoulders of his. I was so happy he finally got his priorities straight when it came to Sophie and stepped up to the plate.

Sophie took some time getting used to, at least for me. She was such a good mom and she worked hard to give Noah the best life she could. She’d been thrown out of her home when she got pregnant and had had to live with Zach and his mom until the shit hit the fan with Zach. You could tell Noah was a good kid and that showed me how much love had gone into raising him. I highly admired Sophie for all she’d done for him. Her thoughts on the MC weren’t to my liking either, quite frankly. She saw the truth of the MC through the eyes of the friends she made, the Old Ladies, at the club. I think she was a bit too stubborn for too long but I was also quite happy that she finally saw the light, so to speak, and gave in to what she really wanted – Ruger.

The book gave us a good look into Marie and Horse’s (characters from book 1) lives and those of the other characters that make up the Reapers. We also got a mighty good view into a future relationship with Em (MC President’s daughter) and Hunter – a member of the Devil’s Jack MC. That story ought to be really interesting considering the Jacks and the Reapers hate each other.

In the end I closed the book with a smile on my face. It was a fun book that was oh, so sexy but also had some pretty serious emotions involved and that made for a wonderful combination. This is a book, and a series for that matter, that I definitely recommend.
