Natalia‘s review of Facebook Jeanie by Addison Westlake

“Sometimes Technology feels like magic, doesn’t it? You never know what they’ll come up with next!”
What a fabulous book this was!

Its Bridget Jones meets Groundhog Day…Ever wonder if you made the right choice? What if you could go back and find out?

31-year-old Clara is in a steady relationship—with Facebook. Every night after her depressing bureaucratic job (so much for saving the world), after coming home to her empty apartment Clara settles down with a pint of ice cream for some good, old-fashioned Facebook stalking. It’s her college boyfriend, The One Who Got Away. He now has a perfect marriage, perfect house, perfect life—everything she could have had if she hadn’t been so, so stupid.

But, wait. Jeanie from Facebook shows up at Clara’s job. There’s a new app they’re beta-testing and Clara’s perfect for it. That night she clicks on it and… nothing happens. But the next morning when Clara wakes up at noon, hung over, listening to her roommate blow-drying her hair and singing “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It”, she realizes she’s back in college.

With the chance to do it all over again. Back in the world of frat parties, BFFs, and long-suffering, overlooked lab partners, join Clara as she discovers what it really means to hit the reset button on life. What could possibly go wrong? And, this time, can she get it right?

I absolutely adored this! As an avid facebook user myself, I am well aware of scrolling through the life of someone from the past and wondering what might’ve been different. Thinking of all the things facebook is coming up with lately, it is completely feasible to me that someone could beta test a reset button on life and go back to the point that determined its direction. This was such a cute story. It was full of wit, realism and ridiculously funny/embarrassing moments we college students can relate to.

I truly appreciated Clara as a character. In spite that this book was fiction, and so good that I would’ve loved it no matter what direction it would’ve gone in, I liked that there was realism in it. Clara kept her priorities straight throughout the entire book, even when admittedly I didn’t. The author was great about getting us completely inside her head and her Dilemma. I found myself cheering for her, laughing at her, and wanted to yell at her for her inability to see some things that were right in front of her eyes. Still I think we all have our blind moments. I found myself relating to her.

It is fantastic to grab a book where a character comes so vividly to life. For me, they all did. Kat with her awesome fashion sense, Jeanie who never stopped moving, and Alec with his absolutely amazing accent.

I didn’t like Brad at all. It is a testament to youth that Clara even bothered dating this guy. For me, he was a jerk for the entire story. I can’t say there is any love lost for him on my part.

I didn’t want this book to end. It had me so hooked from the beginning, that the next thing I knew I was finished and it was 6 A.m. I can’t wait to see what Addison Westlake comes up with next. Whatever it might be, I for one am   looking forward to it!
