What I Read Last Week

Nothing much happened around my place this week. Just working along.

DFRAT (Digital First Read-a-Thon) is in full swing and that are giveaways daily here on the site so be sure and check them all out. Don’t forget to head to Book Binge, RR@H Novel Thoughts and The Book Reading Gals too to see what they have cookin for DFRAT.

On to what I read last week:

First up for the week was Big Girl Panties by Stephanie Evanovich. This was the story of a woman who is overweight and the love story between her and her trainer. There’s a lot going on with her weight issues, her dead husband, the trainer’s issues with her weight, etc. Not as good as I’d hoped it would be in the end as I didn’t like the hero for a lot of the book. You can read my full review here. 3 out of 5

Next up was Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. Holy guacamole, Batman! This was such an excellent book. I have not been a Kaleb Krychek fan in past books but Singh made me adore him. Yes, he’s still Psy and still can be a killer when he needs to be but we learned he did have a heart and he wasn’t afraid to use it. So damned good – a must read for anyone who’s been reading the Psy-Changeling series. 5 out of 5 (read for Book Binge)

My next read was Making It Last by Ruthie Knox. This is book 4 in the Camelot series but it’s actually a continuing story of Amber and Tony who we met in book 1. It’s 14 years after they meet and they love each other dearly but Amber’s having kind of an identity crisis because she’s kind of lost herself. I’ll post my review for this one this week. 4 out of 5

Until Fountain Bridge by Samantha Young is the story of Ellie and Adam and we get to see them going through Ellie’s diaries and while we get to see the back story as told by Ellie, Adam gets to see things from her point of view – even though he was there. It was a clever way to go back and see who things started and progressed. 4 out of 5

How to Lose a Bride in One Night by Sophie Jordan is the story of a woman who gets married and on her wedding night her husband tries to kill her. He thinks he’s succeeded but he hasn’t. She is found by a man who wants nothing to do with a relationship or even taking care of someone else besides himself but he saves her and eventually they fall in love. I really liked this story. It wasn’t horribly fast moving but Jordan made the love story work for me. I’ll post my review for this one next week. 4 out of 5

Last for week as a historical/medieval/time travel/paranormal book called Fire of the Dragon by Lori Dillon. Jill is looking for a toy for her niece’s birthday when she comes across a shop where the proprietor shows her a tapestry. Jill gets sent to the 13th century and becomes a sacrifice for a dragon. The dragon, however, isn’t a dragon but a man cursed to live as a dragon for 11 months a year. Each year he has 1 month to try and break the curse with the maiden sacrifice he’s given. I’ll post my review of this one later this week but I will say it was a good one. 4 out of 5
