Book Club: Cover Me by Catherine Mann.

It’s book club time and this month we’ll be discussing COVER ME by Catherine Mann.

COVER ME is the first book in Catherine Mann’s Elite Force series.  It features Pararescueman Wade Rocha and Sunny Foster.  Wade jumps in to rescue a group of hikers that have lost their way, only to meet up with Sunny Foster who does not need his help…only she does.  Just not in the way that she thought she’d need help.

Check out the blurb:

It should have been a simple mission…

Pararescueman Wade Rocha fast ropes from the back of a helicopter into a blizzard to save a climber stranded on an Aleutian Island, but Sunny Foster insists she can take care of herself just fine…

But when it comes to passion, nothing is ever simple…

With the snowstorm kicking into overdrive, Sunny and Wade hunker down in a cave and barely resist the urge to keep each other warm… until they discover the frozen remains of a horrific crime… Unable to trust the local police force, Sunny and Wade investigate, while their irresistible passion for each other gets them more and more dangerously entangled..

There is much to discuss so let’s get right to it, shall we?

  • What did you think? Did you like it or no?
  • What did you think about Wade and Sunny? Did they work for you?
  • What about the secondary love story between Flynn and Misty?
  • What are you thinking about Phoenix, Sunny and Misty’s brother?
  • What were your favorites of the book? Scene? Quote? Character?
  • What about your not so favorite parts of the book? Share them with us.
Is there anything else you’d like to discuss? Bring it up in the comments and we’ll discuss it right along with you.  We’ll be adding our thoughts there as well.  This is just the set up post.  See you in the comments!

  1. I’m not really a fan of Romantic Suspense. I have too hard a time setting aside disbelief in order to enjoy the story. That definitely colored my enjoyment of this book.

What did you think? Did you like it or no? I really like the idea of a series of books written about Pararescumemen. “So others may live.” They’re such a brave, amazing group of men.

While I think that aspect of the book was great,

What did you think about Wade and Sunny? Did they work for you? I didn’t love either Wade or Sunny. Sunny’s independence bordered on stupid too often, and Wade put up with too much from her.

What about the secondary love story between Flynn and Misty?I though Flynn and Misty were the more interesting characters. Misty’s deafness and her battle in overcoming her fears about it were well written. Her struggle to forgive Flynn was also well done. I wish more page time had been given to them.

What are you thinking about Phoenix, Sunny and Misty’s brother? I have zero respect for him. If he had some life-or-death reason for going AWOL I may have been able to overlook that, but I’m from a military family. That’s just not something I can forgive because he felt stifled. Plus, he abandoned his kid. Who does that??

What were your favorites of the book? Scene? Quote? Character?
The parts with Flynn and Misty were my favorite. Especially Her heart still belonged fully and irrevocably to Flynn Everett.

What about your not so favorite parts of the book? There were some silly typos that really bothered me. Like early in the book when Wade was gripping the barrel of his gun. Uh..yeah. That’s not going to work out so well for him.

Aside from that, I was really bothered by the whole “off the grid” story arc. Sunny wasn’t very smart when it came to protecting her village and her brother. Had she been hiding out for a year or two, I could have understood this. But after 10(?) years? She should have been better at keeping her secrets.

Overall I wasn’t terribly impressed with Sunny and Wade, but I did enjoy Flynn and Misty enough that I’d be willing to try another book.

    My turn..

What did you think? Did you like it or no? It took me forever to read this book. I started it with such high hopes but it didn’t pan out for me. I hated Sunny. I thought Wade was too perfect and I wanted more page time with Flynn and Misty.

What did you think about Wade and Sunny? Did they work for you? While I think that Wade’s job is pretty hot damn cool, I couldn’t connect with him as a character/person. It was hard because he was so damn perfect all the time that I felt like I couldn’t get close to him (if that even makes sense) and Sunny? Her “I’m woman, hear me roar” attitude made me want to bitch slap her too many times. And I agree with you Holly that she didn’t try very hard to keep her home a secret.

What about the secondary love story between Flynn and Misty? I loved this part of the story. I actually wanted more from these two. I thought they should have been the main couple because most of the time, I couldn’t be bothered with Wade and Sunny, I was too busy trying to hurry up and get to the part where Misty and Flynn battle things out.

I thought that their storyline was interesting. I liked that they were childhood sweethearts that were finding their way back to each other with obstacles standing in their way. I thought that Mann did a great job of writing their story out, I just wish they’d been the spotlight couple.

What are you thinking about Phoenix, Sunny and Misty’s brother? I’m not thinking about him at all. I was a little curious to see what happened to make him go AWOL but the more I learned about him, the more I stopped caring. Like you, Holly, his reasons just didn’t do anything for me. No sympathy from me either. I wonder if he’s getting his own book though. Do you know?

What were your favorites of the book? Scene? Quote? Character? I’ve already gone on and on about my fav characters but one of my favorite scenes in the book was actually when Wade saved Sunny’s dog. I may have thought they weren’t all that as a couple and as characters but I did like that scene.

What about your not so favorite parts of the book? Share them with us. Sunny was my least favorite thing about this book. Her attitude and the constant battling with Wade made me want to strangle her. I also thought that the whole bad guy was pretty lame. Brett or whatever his name was. That whole thing was just meh to me.

Holly: I was kind of bummed that Flynn’s brother ended up being who he was. Poor Flynn.

Were you at all interested in Wade’s friends? For me, they were just background noise. Didn’t really do much for me.
