Bronte Dawson is a waitress from Kansas City and is so very excited to be in the Bahamas. She won the trip on a radio station which was great as she would never have been able to afford it otherwise. She agreed to bring a coworker along who is driving her nuts with her complaining but she’s trying to make the best of that and the constant rain on the island. When Bronte’s woken from a nap by her friend and told that they have to evacuate due to an impending Hurricane she’s not thrilled but moves fast. When in the lobby her friend realizes she’s lost her passport Bronte grudgingly goes back to the room to try to find it. On the way back down in the elevator the power goes out and she’s stuck – with a man.
The man is Logan Hawkings and he’s an uptight billionaire workaholic who just bought the resort their in and happens to get stuck with Bronte. They don’t get along at first but when they both finally realize that it’s the Logan and Bronte show and no ones planning on rescuing them they work as a team to save themselves. Logan and Bronte get closer as the time goes by while it’s just the two of them on the island and Logan appreciates that Bronte is so open and honest about things. Of course she thinks he’s the manager of the resort but he doesn’t want to come clean because he doesn’t want her to fawn all over him just because he has money – as the women in his social circles are wont to do.
When they’re rescued Bronte realizes almost immediately that something’s fishy about Logan’s story and when he comes clean about his money she’s devastated and feels betrayed. She starts to doubt everything he said while on the island together and is angry as his dishonesty. Logan of course thinks she’ll be thrilled as she’s getting a great catch but she surprises him and takes off for home when he’s not looking.
After finding Bronte again Logan talks her into heading to New York with him and problems arise. Bronte doesn’t feel like she fits in. She feels awkward and alone and when Logan’s ex starts talking smack about Logan, Bronte’s not all that anxious to disregard everything she says as lies.
I have to tell you that I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I’ll admit that it’s been a darned long time since I read a book with the words millionaire or billionaire in the title because they all started to sound the same after a while. This once was definitely different. I liked how the author ended up bringing the hero and heroine to an understanding as it wasn’t like other books I’d read. In this story Bronte realizes that maybe it’s not all Logan’s job to change – maybe she has to do some changing too.
One of the things that I loved about this was the philosophy quotes that Bronte constantly was spouting. She was a philosophy major and though it didn’t find her a job after college it did give her plenty of material to quote from when she was in different situations. I thought it was hilarious that Logan constantly thought that she was quoting Plato no matter who she quoted. It was humorous every time.
Now the billionaire boys club part of the story I was a little lost on, I must admit. I get that they want to be a secretive club and they give each other financial advice but other than that? Lost. Is it because they offer opportunities to each other first? Because they back each other financially as investors? I can’t see why they would as they’re all filthy rich. IDK – someone needs to explain this to me. lol
In the end this was a great story that I really enjoyed. I will definitely be reading the next book when it releases.
