New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands delivers a wickedly fun Argeneau novel featuring a vampire ready to claim his mate and the beauty who resists her fate!

A kiss doesn’t mean eternity . . .

Valerie Moyer doesn’t believe in vampires—until she is kidnapped by a fanged psychopath! After escaping her bloodthirsty captor, she’s through with creatures of the night. Until she finds herself under the protection of the darkly handsome Anders. Not only is she expected to accept that Anders is immortal, but also that she is the woman destined to be his life mate!

. . . Or does it?

Anders felt a connection to Valerie from the moment he cradled her bruised body in his arms. But before he claims her, he must destroy the vampire who almost stole her from him forever. His job would be easier if Valerie didn’t fight him every step of the way. Still, Anders loves a challenge, and the green-eyed beauty is worth fighting for!

Valerie Moyer is one of many girls being kept in cages in a basement but a complete nutjob who thinks he’s a vampire. Each night his lackey – a guy the girls have named Igor – comes and takes one of the girls up to the guy where he enjoys their fear and attacks their necks. Valerie is smart though and realizes that the food is drugged. She avoids eating and manages to save herself and the girls after some awesome heroism.

The Immortal Enforcers constantly scan the police frequencies for stories exactly like this one. When they hear this they head to to location and manage to work their “magic”, save the girls and make everyone forget they were there. But when Anders, one of the enforcers, tries to read Valerie’s mind he’s shocked. That’s a sign that this woman may be his lifemate. Anders isn’t believing it though because he thought that he was supposed to be completely attracted to his mate. While he thinks she’s pretty he doesn’t feel the passion stirring that he thinks he should…until he kisses her. That kiss sets off a chain of events that forces Anders to believe that Valerie is indeed his lifemate. The problem is, how does he tell her that he’s an Immortal that drinks blood when she just got away from a guy who drinks blood. It’s a problem.

The problem in this book is one that made me think. How DO you tell this woman that was caged and attacked that you’re similar to the guy who kidnapped her. Obviously Anders is a hell of a lot nicer than the kidnapper and yes, he drinks bagged blood but really if I were Valerie I would have high-tailed it out of the house the minute Anders started his tale. The way Sands worked the story she left Valerie more open-minded after a chain of events that confused her so that Anders explanation actually seemed plausible. If I was Valerie however, I still would have run. Lol

While I liked all the characters and the overall story I have to say the romance between Anders and Valerie was really more about sex than anything else, unfortunately. Yes, they spend time together and both with other Immortals as well, but I really didn’t feel that Anders really got to know Valerie all that well. She heard his story and yes, she told him bits and pieces but it just didn’t seem as intense as it has in past books.

While I like this series, and this book was good, don’t get me wrong, it’s kind of all starting to blend together and the books aren’t really standing out so much to me any longer. I don’t want to stop reading it but I think I might need another zinger love story like book 7 (The Accidental Vampire) or 9 (Vampire, Interrupted) to keep me going.
