today’s post from Alexa Snow.

“Anglophile” by Alexa Snow
It’s
not much of a secret that I’m an Anglophile.
I’m
not sure when it started; it’s possible that it was with the discovery of
Doctor Who. (You never forget your first Doctor. Mine was Tom Baker.) I loved
everything about the show, especially the accents, but also the science fiction
and time travel aspects. Around the same time I also discovered Monty Python’s
Flying Circus, which was deeply puzzling and hilarious at the same time.
Now
that I’m middle-aged and the mother of an almost-teenager, my love of all
things British is well established. I adore Jaffa Cakes, Mumford & Sons,
and Shaun of the Dead. Being a lover of GLBT romance, I’ve also seen as many
GLBT British films as I can get my hands (and streaming device) on, and
recommend Beautiful Thing, Imagine Me & You, Maurice, Weekend, and Get Real in
addition to the TV series Queer as Folk
(original British version) and Lip
Service
.
Given
my inclinations, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’ve written a number of
stories that are set in England or that feature British characters, or that I
love writing with the charming and very talented Jane Davitt, who herself is
British (though she now lives in Canada.) There’s just something about the way
a British character puts words together that’s spellbinding for me. I could
listen to Anthony Stewart Head or Benedict Cumberbatch read the phone book and
be completely happy.
All
of this is my way of explaining why I decided to set my O Come All Ye Kinky story, “Ring Out the Old and In the New,” in
London. As someone who has never lived in a city, I find public transportation
intimidating. The amount of research necessary to sort out London’s Underground
was more extensive than I’d anticipated. Even though the details weren’t
particularly important to the story overall, I wanted to have a reasonable
picture of the city in my head, in addition to knowing where the characters
lived and worked. Thank goodness for online friends who are British and/or live
in London! Being able to ask them for advice was invaluable.
I’m
hoping to be able to revisit the main characters in my story, Evan and Russell,
at a later time. Their history and future together are just as interesting to
me as the way they work through the challenges this story presents, and the
setting is as important to me as the characters. I’m optimistic that readers
will find Evan and Russell as charming and exciting as I do!

Here’s the blurb for my story,
“Ring Out the Old and In the New.”

Recovering from
a mugging on the London Underground, Evan has barely left the house in weeks.
His partner and Dom, Russell, finally manages to drag him outside on Christmas
Eve, but it’s the surprise that Russell has waiting for him back home that helps
Evan get past his trauma and remember what’s important: being on his knees for
the man he loves.

And here’s what you can expect to find
in the anthology as a whole:
Christmas is a time of love and joy, and the New Year is a time of
renewal. But they are also times of stress and strife, family drama, pressure
and heartache—a potent mix of high expectations and conflicted emotions. Add in
power exchange relationships, kinky gift swaps, and unconventional love in a
sometimes unforgiving world, and you have a formula for a sizzling anthology of
stories that tug at your heart.
From Ava March’s
forbidden Regency love between men, to Katie
Porter’s scorching hot contemporary tale of two women discovering
holiday happiness, everyone will find a favorite here. Pervertible toys abound:
Lambda Literary Award finalist L.A.
Witt’s candy cane, Jane Davitt’s
wrapping paper and tape, and Alexa Snow’s
Christmas candles all please and delight. Newcomer Elyan Smith and fan favorite Kim Dare both celebrate New Year’s Eve with romantic flair and
kinky fireworks, while bestselling author Joey W. Hill’s poignant story of discovery and commitment will
lead you home.
Whatever your desires, we invite you to explore new fantasies and old
with these eight kinky tales of holiday happy endings.
20% of all proceeds from O
Come All Ye Kinky will be donated to the Domestic Violence Project of the
National Leather Association–International.
(If you buy the book, digital or print, from Riptide’s
website
, more money goes to the charity because we’re not paying
third-party vendor fees.)

You can find out more about the anthology and all the stories here.

About Alexa Snow:
Alexa Snow is an
emotional person who appreciates practicality in others. She’s prone to crying
at inconvenient times, drinking too much coffee, and staying up too late
playing with words (either reading or writing.) A background of schooling she
wasn’t all that interested in resulted in a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and
a vague sense of wasted time. Alexa lives in a tiny old house in New England
with her husband, young son, and a small collection of pets. You can find Alexa
at her Website,
her Blog,
or you can send her an email.

Tracy’s here – I’m adding my own giveaway to this one so by leaving a comment on this post will you not only be entered to win the GC through Riptide (see above) but I will also have a drawing for a download of O Come All Ye Kinky to one lucky winner. Leave comment by Dec. 16.

  1. I've always been an Anglophile too, and their Christmas celebrations sound excellent! (Actually, I found the London Underground pretty easy to navigate after a little trial and error.) Been waiting for this anthology, for sure…

  2. Looking forward to this story. I'm at Joey W. Hill's story in the anthology now. This is a terrific book and I've enjoyed every story thus far.
I think it's great that donations are being made to NLA's Domestic Violence Project as well!

  3. Urb

I just saw the latest Bond film, and was distracted by the accents. Love those British accents! Can't wait to read OCAYK!

  5. Yeah, me too. I confess, though for me, it really all started with Coronation Street…But I do love me some Dr. Who and I agree, Weekend was a fab movie!

  7. Anything to do with England, Ireland, Scotland and/or Wales & I'm all over it. 😀

I had a blind date with an Irishman when I was younger. I could've sat there all night just listening to him talk. Sadly all he talked about was himself, but it did sound really nice for the first half hour. Ha!

  8. I remember watching Benny Hill and Monty Python as a kid and finding them hilarious but not really getting it until much later in life >.< I find myself in love with most things British so I can so feel you 😉

  9. I didn't understand much of England English at first, having a hard time understanding any sort of english at the time, I still loved the accent…

Now that I understand, it's even better! And I totally agree with Anthony Stewart Head reading the phone book! I would probably drool all over the place. lol.

I'm going to go of and read your story now…
