Rowena’s review of Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor #6) by Jill Shalvis.

Hero: Dr. Josh Scott
Heroine: Grace Brooks

LOVE CAN HAPPEN IN A HEARTBEAT Grace never thought she’d be starting her life over from scratch. Losing everything has landed her in Lucky Harbor, working as a dog walker for overwhelmed ER doctor Josh Scott. But the day his nanny fails to show up, Grace goes from caring for Josh’s lovable mutt to caring for his rambunctious son. Soon Grace is playing house with the sexy single dad . . .

With so many people depending on him, Josh has no time for anything outside of his clinic and family-until Grace arrives in town. Now this brainy blonde is turning his life inside out and giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “good bedside manner.” Josh and Grace don’t know if what they have can last. But in a town like Lucky Harbor, a lifetime of love starts with just one day . . .

This story is the sixth book in the Lucky Harbor series and I do believe it’s my favorite. This book follows the last of the Chocoholics, Grace Brooks to her happy ending. When we first meet Grace, she’s stopped in Lucky Harbor temporarily to get back on her feet. She’s looking for a job, something more permanent so that she can be at peace and make her parents proud of her. Making her parents proud is something that she strives for everyday, even when what they want for her is not what she wants for herself.

Dr. Josh Scott has too much on his plate. He’s got full custody of his six year old son Toby who barks like a dog instead of talk like a boy, his paraplegic younger sister is living with him and loves to give him hell at every turn. She’s pissed off, she misses their parents and hates the world now that she’s paralyzed. He’s also an in demand doctor at the hospital and spends a great deal of time at work. He needs help and isn’t above paying the money to get that help. He needs someone to walk his son’s dog since he’s never home to do it himself so he hires Grace Brooks to do it and she’s a terrible dog walker. He knows that she’s struggling to make ends meet so he hires to help her out and when she comes storming into his life, she changes everything and he becomes the one that needs her far more than she’d ever need him.

Watching Josh and Grace get closer and closer together was just too cute for words. I adored that every time they shared page time, they made the most of their interactions. I loved that Grace came into Josh’s life and flipped it upside down. I loved watching Josh fall deeper and deeper in love with Grace. He came to love her just as much as he needed her. He came to rely on her to help keep his home in order. He trusted her with his family, with his secrets and with his heart. I loved the way that Josh loved Grace and moreover, I loved the way that Grace loved Josh. She loved him so thoroughly and not just him, she loved Toby and Anna as well.

Grace was exactly what Josh, Toby and Anna needed. She cared about them, she loved them and she brought them all together and I loved reading about it all coming together. Jill Shalvis always write fabulous stories and I am always anxious for more. I haven’t heard any news about Shalvis continuing this series but I’ve got my fingers crossed. I want more from the small town of Lucky Harbor as its the only small town series that I’m still reading and enjoying. I hope she’ll continue to write more LH books until the end of my days, I love this series that much.

This was another lovely addition to the Lucky Harbor books and I’m anxious for more. I adored Josh and his family. I enjoyed seeing Grace make a place for herself in the Scott family and even more thrilled to see her making a place for herself in Lucky Harbor. She was a strong heroine with a big heart and I adored her. Josh was lucky to have her but Grace was lucky to have Josh. It was just the best kind of romance. Absolutely loved it!

Awesome review and I love that grading, Rowena! I only read 1/4 of book 4, not touched book 5, but I am definitely reading book 6. I like the premise and the sample chapter I downloaded on the Kindle is good. So soon as I get home from work I’m on it!

Jill posted on her blog that she is contracted for more of this series. How many and the details is to be determined. You can check out more on her post here: http://jillshalvis.com/blog/2012/07//17/whats-next/

  2. I just finished reading this too and I think that it might be tied with the first book as my favorite of the series so far.

I loved getting to know Grace and Josh and their hang ups. I thought it was a really sold story 😀
