Today we welcome Joely Sue Burkhart. She’s here to celebrate the latest release in her Connaghers series, Yours to Take.

__________

Second Chances

A cop who’s already been divorced once.

A fiery relationship of more downs than ups that ended three months ago.

A life of drugs and crime on the streets.

Can these people work together to find their second chance at love?

Do you believe in second chances? How far can someone really forgive?

Vicki and Elias were in a relationship for over a year, but they
fought constantly because of their jobs. Elias couldn’t forget that
Vicki stood on the other side of the courtroom and was often
instrumental in putting criminals–who he’d caught–back on the
streets. Never mind that Vicki might be helping innocent people
accused of a crime. He couldn’t see beyond the firm’s less pristine
clients. So when one of those clients gunned down his partner in the
street…

He walked out.

He’s not proud about it. He does love Vicki even if he can’t really
find the words to say so. He knows she loves him. What they had was
good, real good. Months later, he’s still thinking about her. Truth
be told, he often stops by her place to make sure she’s okay, even if
he never goes to her door. He doesn’t really believe he deserves a
second chance, even if she’d let him in.

On the other hand, Jesse’s just a homeless street artist who’s trying
to keep himself clean after getting arrested five years ago. He’s
seen some bad things in his life. While he’s drug free now and trying
to get back on his feet, it’s hard when people can’t see past the
grime and filth of the streets. Vicki saw him from the very beginning
and he loves her for it. After she disappears from her old job, he’s
determined to find her. Just to see her. He doesn’t believe he
deserves anything more.

When a woman is falling in love with two men, someone’s bound to end
up feeling betrayed. All those fragile hopes for second chances begin
to waver. The doubt begins to creep in. Maybe Elias should do the
noble thing and leave her to Jesse. Maybe Vicki would be better off
if Jesse slipped away in the night and left her to her cop. Maybe…

Or maybe love proves them all wrong.

  1. I definitely believe in second chances. Sometimes, when people are young and immature, they do impetuous things that can “brand” and follow them for a long time. It takes time to earn respect again, but if someone proves they can be trusted, they certainly deserve another chance.

I’m looking forward to reading Ms. Burkhart’s novel, “Yours to Take.” Thanks for sharing this fun giveaway.

  2. My bf and I are on try 2… We split for over a decade and started talking again then back together. At times you just need to grow up and change to make it work….

  3. Depending on the circumstances, I believe in second chances. We’re only human, we’re bound to make mistakes along the way.

  4. I love 2nd chance romances! I think I like them b/c it seems like the relationships are stronger, they have to work hard to make it work and compromise!

  5. As long as the parties involved have changed in some way, then yes, I believe second chances are possible. If nothing has changed in their attitudes and opinions though, the second chance is no more likely to work then the first did.

  6. I believe in second chances, when there’s is honest effort on both sides (I emphasize this because of current if unrelated events *coughTSSplagiarismcough*

I am very intrigued by this post–is this a love triangle or…? Intrigued, I tell you.

Best of luck with it, Ms Burkhart.

  7. I like to believe in second chances. After all, the first efforts are part of a learning curve, right?

  8. I believe in second chances, but not in thirds. You can always make up for mistakes, repair things, and I believe we all deserve to be given a chance.

  9. I do believe in second chances if the everyone understands what went wrong and are willing to fix it.
