Casee‘s review of Whispers in the Dark (KGI series, Book 4) by Maya Banks.

I’m going to start with a little ass kissing and say I lurve you, Maya Banks.
Ass kissing you ask? Moi? That’s my way of saying straight away that I still love this series. I consider this book a bump in the road. It’s one of those things that I am going to pretend never happened. Nathan? Nathan who?
Let me get right to it because this isn’t going to be an in depth review like Tracy’s. I’m simply going to state why I could not finish this book. There were two reasons. I can’t say if I could have finished it if there were only one of them. I just can’t tell you.
1. Shea is a fucking psychic. No, not psycho. She’s telepathic. She also has a sister who has magical powers. She can heal people physically. And Shea can act as a conduit between her sister and an injured person to heal them.
2. Nathan didn’t have the Kelly arrogance assiness that comes with, well, being a Kelly. He was too normal. Which is good in real life, but not in a book written by Maya Banks. God knows I tried to finish it, but I just didn’t care how it ended. I really didn’t. I didn’t care what happened to Shea or Nathan.
Throwing a telepath into the series isn’t as bad as oh, say, throwing time-travel in. Which is why I can just pretend it never happened. Still, I just don’t get it.

Oh God, thank you for this review. I finished the book but it was not particularly enjoyable for me. I usually LOVE books by Maya Banks but honestly, I don’t read her for a paranormal slant. I really hope the next in the KGI series is more like the earlier ones…
Casee – I think a slightly longer review might be more informative for the reader. Having a hero be normal isn’t really a problem for me as long as the plot works. However, did you feel the psychic storyline bit moved this book into paranormal territory? Was that your main concern or was it more that the plot was too unbelievable? Thanks.

I actually enjoyed this book. I DID like the first 3 better, though. I wasn’t crazy about the telepathy angle, but the plot still kept me interested and eager to read more.
@Kim – if you want a longer review, check out all the bad reviews on Amazon and Goodreads and USA Today. I don’t think it is necessary – this book was bad, and that’s it.

I didn’t DNF this book – but nearly did! It was boring!
However I have decided to DNF the entire series!
It was all cheese, no substance. On top of that, I was almost at the point of calling plagiarism of Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalkers series.
@Barbara I am hoping the same thing. I read that the next book is Rio’s and I have a feeling that the heroine could be Grace.
@Kim The reason I put the link to Tracy’s review was b/c it is very informative. The psychic storyline definitely moved this book into paranormal territory. My main concern is that the series doesn’t move from romantic suspense to romantic suspense with with a paranormal twist. Am I making sense?

@cheryl c I’m glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed seeing the Kelly family again. Joe annoyed me though. You would think that he would understand Nathan more than anyone.
@Anon It was boring. That was one of the reasons I couldn’t finish it. Thinking more on it, Nathan was boring, not normal. Just boring.
I don’t agree about about the GhostWalker series and this series though. There are obvious differences.
