Review: Tempted By His Target by Jill Sorenson

Wanted for the murder of a Mexican drug lord’s son, party girl Isabel Sanborn fled to Oaxaca. Now she owes her life to Brandon Knox, a passing tourist who just saved her from a hit man.

But Knox is no accidental hero—he’s an undercover U.S. marshal assigned to bring Isabel to justice. Instead, wanting to protect her, he joins her on the lam…with cartel goons and corrupt police in hot pursuit!

And as the danger escalates, sexual tension sizzles. For the first time in his career, Brandon considers jeopardizing his mission to safeguard his target. And though Isabel can elude the authorities, she can’t escape her feelings….

The blurb gives you a great synopsis of the story so I’m going to head into my thoughts…

First I have to say that I love Sorenson’s characters. They are always so well thought out and very realistic. We get background on them and thoughts into their family and I for one really appreciate that when I read.

In this story Brandon is assigned to bring Isabella in. As the reader we don’t know exactly who he works for so at first you’re not sure if he’s a bad guy or a good guy. But soon I figured out that he played for the good team but he was torn. He assumed he knew who Isabella was based on her past but once he got to meet her he saw that she wasn’t that person any longer and he found himself incredibly attracted to her. He knew this couldn’t happen…yet, his feelings were pulling him every which way. I could honestly feel Brandon’s confusion with knowing what he should do professionally and what his heart told him to do.

Isabella had been a party girl – only seeking friends who had the good drugs, etc. She was running fron the law so she wouldn’t go to jail for murder – one she wasn’t sure she didn’t commit. She is so lonely in Mexico after being on her own for 2 years but has really found in herself a strength that she didn’t realize she had before. The book really showed Isabella growing and learning some key things emotionally and that really worked for me. I thought she might have trusted Brandon a little too quickly based on her past but I think taking into consideration her loneliness she was kind of ripe for the picking if you will. Lol And Brandon and Isabella together. Holy hot fire Batman. Their sexual chemistry was pretty intense and when they did finally act on their attraction? Wow – pretty explosive.

I thought the book had a great blend of romance and suspense that worked together so well. I have to admit that sometimes with romantic suspense books I find myself skimming the suspense parts to get back to the romance…but I didn’t here. The suspense part was just as engaging as the romance and woven so nicely into the scenes.

A quick, fast, energetic book that kept my attention from page 1. Definitely a book to read.
