SHE’S WRITING ABOUT HIM. HE’S WRITING ABOUT HER. AND EVERYBODY IS READING BETWEEN THE LINES.

For Erin Blackwell, majoring in creative writing at the New York City college of her dreams is more than a chance to fulfill her ambitions—it’s her ticket away from the tragic memories that shadow her family’s racehorse farm in Kentucky. But when she refuses to major in business and take over the farm herself someday, her grandmother gives Erin’s college tuition and promised inheritance to their maddeningly handsome stable boy, Hunter Allen. Now Erin has to win an internship and work late nights at a local coffee shop to make her own dreams a reality. She should despise Hunter . . . so why does he sneak into her thoughts as the hero of her latest writing assignment?

Then, on the day she’s sharing that assignment with her class, Hunter walks in. He’s joining her class. And after he reads about himself in her story, her private fantasies about him must be painfully clear. She only hopes to persuade him not to reveal her secret to everyone else. But Hunter devises his own creative revenge, writing sexy stories that drive the whole class wild with curiosity and fill Erin’s heart with longing. Now she’s not just imagining what might have been. She’s writing a whole new ending for her romance with Hunter . . . except this story could come true.

Jennifer Echols has been on my auto-buy list ever since I read Going Too Far. I thought that book was such a good read that I’m ever so hopeful that every time I pick up an Echols book, I’ll be as blown away as I was while reading that book.

This book follows Erin Blackwell and Hunter Blackwell (ugh, I need to re-read my reviews before posting) Allen as they write each other love notes disguised as stories for their creative writing class in college. Hunter and Erin know each other because Hunter’s father and then later on, Hunter worked for Erin’s grandmother on her family’s horse farm. Hunter and Erin were friends until an incident on the farm made Erin break away from any ties she had. She wants to go to college and get a college education but she’s an aspiring author and she doesn’t want to take over the reins of the family business.

Her grandmother strikes back at Erin but giving her inheritance to the stable boy, Hunter Allen and Erin feels betrayed and everything that goes with it because well, she’s not rich anymore.

Things are going okay for her at first, she’s got a place to live and a job that helps her pay her bills and everything is peachy until Hunter enrolls into her Creative writing class where she wrote a story…about him. Talk about embarrassing but she suffered through and when he writes his story about her, a funky kind of romance starts blossoming between them and even though she shouldn’t like him because he stole her inheritance, she can’t help herself. She falls for him anyway.

Hunter and Erin were two young people in love and trying to deal with a sticky situation by fumbling through. They bickered their way to their happy for now ending and at times I wanted to beat Erin over the head with a brick because she was your typical, young heroine with opinions and a self righteousness that got on my hot damn nerves. The way that she assumed the worst in Hunter (even though I understood why she thought the way she did) at every turn got to be old after a while and it was while I was being annoyed with Erin somewhere in the middle of the book that I realized that Jennifer Echols writes the kind of heroines that I absolutely hate. I can’t think of a heroine of hers that I didn’t want to beat over the head with a brick. Hell, I even wanted to beat Meg a few times in Going Too Far.

The book ends the way that it’s supposed to end (at least for me) which made me a happy camper but it wasn’t without a whole lot of drama…that was witnessed by their entire college writing class. Instead of just coming out and asking Hunter what the hell his conversation with her grandmother was about, Erin did the most boneheaded thing in the world and it had me rolling my eyes all over the damn room.

But aside from Erin’s dumb antics, I still enjoyed this book. Jennifer Echols writes stories that I just can’t put down. She writes heroes that I want to drown in. She has a way of writing the heck out of story that even though the heroine will drive you up the wall, it’s okay because the hero will bring you back down and cuddle you close. I adored Hunter, even when he was being a college boy bonehead. He was cute and I loved the way that he loved Erin.

Would I recommend this book? Yep, if you’re a fan of Jennifer Echols then you’ll probably want to read it. It’ll give you a few hours entertainment for sure.

For all my Moms out there, I’d give this book a rating of:

For language and some steamy scenes, I’d recommend this for the thirteen and over crowd.

..and that’s your scoop!

I was really disappointed in this book; although Erin started out pretty cool, by the end of the book she switched back and forth so many times between liking and loathing Hunter and I felt like I had whiplash trying to remember how she felt about him at any given time. I definitely prefer Going Too Far and Echols’ Simon Pulse comedies.

@Alex: I wanted to read this book because not only does Erin aspire to be an author but she aspires to be a romance novelist. How cool is that? But Erin isn’t all that’s great, she’s a whole lot of drama but it all ends well so I let her slide a lot. =)

@Bookworm1858: Welcome to my blog! I’ve yet to read any of Echols Simon Pulse comedies but they’re on my list. I definitely know what you mean with the whole back and forth thing with Erin but I was okay with it. =) Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I’ve read one of Echols’ books before and I enjoyed it, so I have beend dying to get my hands on this one. It sounds like something I would enjoy and I am glad to see you liked it. Great review 🙂
