Tracy’s review of Hidden Away (KGI #3) by Maya Banks

Most people would take an all-expense=paid trip to the beach in a heartbeat. Garrett Kelly only accepts to keep tabs on Sarah Daniels, who’s in hiding after witnessing a murder committed by her half brother-a personal enemy of KGI. But Garrett hadn’t planned on falling for Sarah. When he glimpses her dark past, he feels an urgent desire to keep her safe-even as she disappears, running for her life.

Garrett is determined to bring Marcus Lattimer down. Lattimer was instrumental in killing off and injuring members of Garrett’s team years before and he wants the man behind bars, if not dead. So when the CIA asks for Garrett’s help in bringing Lattimer in, Garrett’s all for it. His mission is just to watch Lattimer’s half sister, Sarah, hoping that Lattimer is not too far away from her.

But Garrett heads to a small island and is pretty much blindsided by his attraction to Sarah. Though he denies his feelings he does feel protective of her and eventually gets Sarah to trust him. The problem is, he’s lying through is teeth to her in order to bring her brother down. That info is not going to sit well with her when she finds out the one person she can trust besides her brother is betraying her.

This is yet another great addition to Maya Banks’ KGI series. Garrett is the strong protective type – as are all the Kelly boys – but he’s not afraid to show it. Though he’s lying to Sarah about exactly why he’s there, he really doesn’t lie about who he is on the inside and he wasn’t afraid to show who he was – I loved that about him.

Then there was Sarah. At first I really didn’t like her. Too timid for me. But as I read on I found that she really was a strong character once you got to know her. She’d been through tons of crap throughout her life and she really was a survivor – not a kick-ass heroine, but definitely strong.

The story also allowed us to see some more details about the Kelly family. We saw more about Ethan and Rachel and of Sophie and Sam. There was also a part about teenage Rusty, who is one of the Kelly mom’s little chicks that she’s taken in, and the Kelly boys’ thoughts and feelings about her that I really loved. I truly like the way that Banks isn’t afraid to show her heroes as vulnerable and sometimes just downright immature. It doesn’t make them any less wonderful, it just makes them more likable and definitely more human.

Overall a really great read. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
