What Are You Reading? 2-13-11 (45)

Holly: Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. I’m not really a hearts and flowers kind of girl on the best of days, but V-Day particularly gets on my nerves. The whole thing seems over-commercialized and rather ridiculous. I know I’m sure I’m in the minorty. I’m curious, how many of you love Valentine’s Day? Have any good V-Day reading recommendations?

I’m in a semi-slump. It’s taking me forever to finish a book and nothing is grabbing my full attention. It’s frustrating. Yesterday I read Hunting Julian by Jacquelyn Frank. I picked it up on a whim and it took me all.freaking.day to read it. Usually I can finish a book this size in 2-3 hours. I started it at around 10a.m and didn’t finish until 6 last night. I hate it when that happens.

Anyway, I enjoyed it more than I expected given the premise. It’s a sci-fi romance set in an alternate reality. The hero is an alien. While this isn’t my favorite type of story, I enjoyed the world-building for the most part. The heroine’s attitude about relationships came to bother me the more I read. I don’t understand why she felt the way she did.

Today I started The Guy Next Door, an anthology featuring Lori Foster, Susan Donovan and Victoria Dahl. I’m only about 3/4 of the way through the Foster, but so far I’m enjoying it. I’m a little nervous about reading the Dahl. Her heroines get on my nerves on the best of days. From what I understand this is a prequel of sorts to a series Dahl is starting. I’m not sure that’s going to work for me. I am going to go tinto it with an open mind, however, and hope for the best.

Rowena: I read absolutely nothing this week. I haven’t even started the books that I said I was going to read last week. So I’m going to try to get some reading done tonight after basketball games. I’ll be reading Other Words for Love by Lorraine Zago Rosenthal and 11 Scandals to Start to win a Duke’s Heart by Sarah MacLean.

Casee: I’m reading A light at Winter’s End by Julia London.

  1. Hi ladies. I’m overdosing on Robyn Carr who I can;’t ever seem to get enough of. Reading Wild Man Creek. OH, and I am a true Lori Foster slut, By everything she write.

  2. I went on a binge LOL. Helps to be sick at home with the flu. Since Friday I’ve read:

    Everyone Loves a Hero-Marie Force
Love Me – Bella Andre –
    911 – Chris Owens
Laid Bare, Coming Undone and now starting Inside Out, all by Lauren Dane.

  3. I’m rereading Nora Roberts’s The Sign of Seven trilogy (currently on book 2, The Hollow).

For some stranger reason I’ve been pretty much bingeing on rereads of Ms Roberts’s work lately–with the occasional interlude with something else, true, but still.

  4. Laura Leone’s out of print book Fallen From Grace (featuring a male prostitute hero) was finally released for Kindle and I scarfed that one up last week. If you like angst, this one’s got it in spades. Absolutely one of the best contemp romances I’ve read in a long time. I’m so glad I finally had a chance to read it.

I finished Prom and Prejudice and The Lonely Hearts Club (both by Elizabeth Eulberg) this weekend. I think I’ll start a Julie James book next.

Casey – cant wait to get my hands on LAWE.

I am currently reading SEP’s Call Me Irresitible; only read a little over 100 pgs and there was one funny scene with h/h. I am not liking the hero at this point and hope SEP has a good reason for him acting the way he does – will not specify as I don’t want to be a spoiler. Can’t wait to see how she redeems him.

Last book I read by her, I couldn’t even finish as I disliked both the h/h so much. Hope that is ok to say that. I usually love her books very much.

And Desiree, I agree with you on Carr and Foster. Also love Rachel Gibson, Julie James, Robin Kaye, Catherine Anderson, Susan Andersen, Toni Blake, Susan Mallery – could go on and on and I did. LOL.

I’m biased. I’m a huge Bella fan and I loved it. I’d been waiting for this book in the series. All of the ones I read this week are great.

Loved Marie Force’s book. I didn’t think she’d outdo Love At First Flight. It’s everything a contemp should be – sexy, funny, emotional and an added feature – it was so romantic. I was alternately sighing, tearing up or just plain melting.

  9. I’m with you Holly, not a fan of V-day. But I probably will buy some candy tomorrow when it’s 1/2 price. LOL

    I just finished Heather Webber’s Truly, Madly. Funny mystery/romance about a match-making family named – Valentine. 🙂

Reading Cheryl St. John’s Nick All Night for the TBR challenge. Good so far.
