Guest Review: Love in Exile by Samantha Kane

Ames‘ review of Love in Exile by Samantha Kane

Gregory Anderson has reluctantly returned to England in 1817 after more than seven years sailing the world. Half Polynesian, Gregory is caught between two worlds. He isn’t looking for love. He’s only looking for a warm body with a modicum of wit and reasonable intelligence to help him get through the few short months he’ll be in England.

Nat and Alecia Digby’s marriage, arranged when they were young and foolish, was almost ruined before it began when they both took lovers. They don’t want to give up the erotic games they learned to play and enjoy, but they won’t risk their marriage again by falling in love with someone else.

When the three meet, they think it will be nothing more than a night or two of shared pleasure and erotic thrills. But the unthinkable happens, because love refuses to be forced into exile.

Love in Exile is book six in the Brothers in Arms series by Samantha Kane. It’s also the second book I’ve read by her (the first being the Courage to Love, book 1 of this series). Not having read the previous 4 books in this series did not detract from the story at all. There were a few characters that I can imagine were from the previous books, but at no point was I lost in what was going on.

I really enjoyed Love in Exile. I thought the characters were well written. First there’s Gregory. He’s skating the edge between two cultures. His father is a well known English scientist and his mother is Polynesian. He can tell he’s different from both and he prefers living in his mother’s land than spending time on English soil. On his latest excursion to England, he hopes to find someone to pass the time with, and he gets his wish with Nat and Alecia Digby, a younger couple who intrigue him from the beginning.

Nat and Alecia were interesting characters as well. I like how although their marriage was arranged, they overcame the obstacles at the beginning of their marriage and eventually fell in love. And they do take the odd gentleman into their bed from time to time but their loyalties lie with each other. But Gregory changes that – and they change things for Gregory as well. He no longer wants someone to just pass the time with, he’s looking for more, but can the threat of blackmail keep them away from each other forever?

One qualm I had was when Nat, Alecia and Gregory initially came together. Nat had been with men in the past and I was worried that he would care for Gregory more than he cares for Alecia. I had the same feeling for Gregory as well – would they leave Alecia out? But that fear was totally groundless. Samantha Kane knows how to write threesomes really well and thought it was balanced out well.

I have to give Love in Exile a 4 out of 5!

The series:

At Love’s Command

Love’s Strategy

Love Under Siege

The Courage to Love

Retreat From Love

Love’s Fortress

Saturday Song

Posted October 2, 2010 by Tracy in Reviews | 5 Comments

My kids love their PS2 Rock Band!  Ballroom Blitz by Sweet is one of their favorite songs to sing and play but it’s rare that one of “us” doesn’t fail out on our instrument.  It’s hilarious and we all end up cracking up.  Luckily this has always been a favorite song of mine so I don’t mind hearing it over…and over…and over…and over! lol
This was released in 1973 from the British glam rock band.  According to Wikipedia the song was inspired by an incident in 1973 when the band was performing at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland and were driven offstage by a barrage of bottles. It’s amazing the information you find online. heh.

LHS Round One: Rachel Gibson.

Posted October 2, 2010 by Rowena in Features | 8 Comments

It’s that time again!

It’s been too long since we’ve played favorites and with our Author Spotlight kicking off again, now is the perfect time to pick it right back up. If you’re new to Last Hero Standing, the rules are simple. Vote for your favorite hero and vote often for them. Each week, the heroes with the lowest number of votes will be kicked off the island and a new round of voting will begin with the remaining heroes. We’ll repeat this pattern until we’ve crowned a new Last Hero Standing.

This month we’ll be spotlighting Rachel Gibson so we’ll be voting for our favorite RG heroes. There are lots to choose from and I think this will be the first time where I’ll be happy with whoever wins. Too many good guys to choose from.

Here are the heroes that you will be voting for this month:

Thomas Mack from Now and Forever (Secrets of a Perfect Night anthology)
John Kowalsky from Simply Irresistible
Nick Allegrezza from Truly, Madly, Yours
Joe Shanahan from It Must Be Love
Dylan Taber from True Confessions
Max Zamora from Lola Carlyle Reveals All
Luc Martineau from See Jane Score
Jackson Lamont Parrish from Daisy’s Back in Town
Rob Sutter from The Trouble with Valentine’s Day
Quinn McIntyre from Sex, Lies and Online Dating
Sebastian Vaughan from I’m in No Mood for Love
Mick Hennessy from Tangled Up in You
Zach Zemaitis from Not Another Bad Date
Ty Savage from True Love and Other Disasters
Mark Bressler from Nothing but Trouble

So who’s going to make it to the next round, I wonder? We’ll have to get our vote on so that we can see. Voting for Round One has already begun and the polls will stay open until October 8th at 11:59pm so get your votes in.

Good luck and happy voting!

Ready, set, GO!!!
