Tracy’s review of Her Laird, Her Lover by Sable Grey

Scottish border lord Robert Shelley doesn’t believe that the blind woman has the gift of knowing, and quickly learns that his suspicions are correct, but what he doesn’t expect is the searing lust she ignites inside him.

Katie Stewart has been swept back into medieval time and has adjusted the best way she knows how—by conning her way into enough coins to survive. She’s content with her life until a big Scotsman walks into her cottage and seizes her heart, making her want more than just his gifts and the occasional romp. Katie wants him—forever.

Katie Stewart travelled back through time 3 years ago. She was more than a bit hysterical when she realized what had happened but an old crone from the village saved her life by telling everyone Katie was her daughter. Now Magda tells everyone that Katie is blind, though she’s not, and that she has the “knowing” aka she’s psychic. They’ve run the con for years, living off of their lies and no one has been the wiser – until Laird Robert Shelley shows up. He’s not completely convinced but accepts her “advice” on taking care of his enemy and leaves.

When Katie heads down to the lake for her nightly bath she runs into Robert and the jig is up as Robert realizes Katie’s not blind. That doesn’t stop Katie and Robert from sharing some sharp tongued/witted conversation and some incredibly hot sex.

Robert is taken with Katie and gifts appear for her and Magda in the months in between Robert’s visits to Katie. But Robert’s enemy discovers the connection between the couple and moves to hurt Robert in ways other than all out war.

This was such a short story, only about 40 pages or so, but Ms. Grey really packed a lot of good stuff in them. A lot of shorter stories tend to take place within the space of a few days or a week while this one really took place over quite a long period of time – almost a year, I think. While we didn’t see every detail of that time the story was told in such a way that you never felt like you were missing out on anything. We got to see Robert and Katie’s relationship grow and change, and it was quite sweet.

If you’re like me and like shorter stories that pack a lot of punch this book would be a great choice.

  1. Kate – Not quite first meeting sex, but almost. lol It’s pretty erotic but it was a nice mix of story and sex for being so short.

Dr J – Me too. In this one, as I said, I was pretty impressed with the way the author moved through the weeks and months of separation but you didn’t feel like there was a huge lapse.

  2. Thank you for the wonderful review! I’m happy that you liked my title, Her Laird, Her Lover. I’m currently writing the second installment to the Scattered series.

Erotic romance author, Kaye Spencer, has contracted a book at Breathless Press too. Her’s will launch the new Western line and like me she writes hot erotic sex scenes with a balance of great story too. Another good name for those that like male/male erotic romance is Jamieson Wolf.

Again, I appreciate the review. I hope my next title in this series is received with equal appreciation.
