It’s August 8th- What Are You Reading? (19)

Rowena: I just keep right on sucking on the reading front. This time though, it was because it took me so long to read a book that I thought I was going to thoroughly enjoy. I’m still reading the Diary of a Beverly Hills Matchmaker and I don’t know if it’s because this isn’t a piece of fiction or what, but I can’t seem to stay focused while reading this book. I keep wanting to read everything else in my library instead.

But I finally finished The Fool’s Girl by Celia Rees and Tracy Anne Warren’s Wicked Delights of a Bridal Bed. The Fool’s Girl was interesting but too wordy and Wicked Delights was a delightful read and probably my favorite read of the week. Right now, I’m going to force myself to finish the Beverly Hills book and then I’m going to continue with The Book of Peach by Penelope Stokes.

Casee: August is looking to be a good reading month for me. I just finished Water Bound by Christine Feehan this morning. It’s the best book I’ve read by her in a very long time. I liked that it wasn’t filled up with pages and pages of sex. In fact, it wasn’t until over halfway through the book that the characters in this book had sex. That must be a Feehan record or something.

Next I’m going to start the Burning Up anthology by Angela Knight, Nalini Singh, Virginia Kantra, and Meljean Brook. I’m not an anthology fan, but I’ll read anything that Nalini Singh has written.

Holly:  I’ve been in the mood for category romances lately. I read Do You Take This Cop by Beth Andrews, then Friendly Fire by Jill Shalvis and now Claimed by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I didn’t care for the Andrews at all. The heroine crossed the TSTL line early in the book, and the hero followed later on. I did enjoy the Shalvis, though I’m sure none of you are surprised by that. So far the Thompson is good.

I haven’t decided what to read next. Maybe y’all can suggest something? Have you read anything good lately?

Tell us, what are you reading?

  1. “Methland” by Nick Reding. This book was so compelling I finished it in one night. Redings’ telling of the downward spiral of Oelwein, OH is riveting and down right scare your pants off terrifying. Redings’ work will put your faith back in journalists and journalism.

Afterwards, I had to have …a glass of scotch, a smoke, and time to myself just to reflect what I just witness within the pages of “Methland.”

  2. Just finished Hoyt’s WICKED INTENTIONS and really liked it. I struggled through HOT FINISH by Erin McCarthy. It was sorta flat for me.

I haven’t decided whether or not to read the new Feehan, Tessa Dare’s THREE NIGHTS WITH A SCOUNDREL or INFAMOUS by Brockmann.

I’m nervous about the ghost in Brockmann’s book…

  3. My reading week is looking awesome with Body Master, just out from CJ Barry and Nalini Singh’s Bonds of Justice. Thanks for reminding me that I need to pick up the anthology!

  4. @Rosie – I really liked the Dare. I was on the fence about Julian, but he turned out to be wonderful. I also enjoyed the Feehan.

  5. My favorite this week was Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. I’ve been on a bit of a YA Fae kick lately – my favorite last week was The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa. Biggest disappointment was a book called Tsunami Blue by Gayle Ann Williams. It got great reviews from bloggers that I respect, but it just wasn’t my cuppa. Currently reading Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey and really liking it.

  6. I am in the middle of Body Master by CJ Barry and have started two others but cannot get into them. I think I am just not having my reading mojo right now. Too stressed about work to read, sad to say.

  7. Didnt care for Kristan Higgins latest one. Couldnt even finish it. But I really Liked The Night She Got Lucky and Sugar Creek. And am going to Start Crush on You.

I just finished an awesome Old Skool Harlequin Presents, Betrayal in Bali by Sally Wentworth. (Review at GoodReads.) Not sure what to start next, but I have a reprint of Suzanne Brockmann that seems probable. — willaful
