Review: The Iron Daughter by Julia Kagawa.

Genres: Paranormal Romance

Main Characters: Meghan, Puck and Ash
Series: The Iron Fae Series, Book 2

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan’s own fey powers have been cut off. She’s alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can’t help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

I read this book in no time at all. So much happened in this book and I adored every minute of it. From the beginning to the end, it was jam packed with adventure after adventure with lots of fabulousness mixed in. Once again, Kagawa knocked this sucker out of the park with her descriptions of the places in this story.

Since I wasn’t as confused this time around, I was able to enjoy the setting, the characters and what was going on in the story. In this story, Meghan is taken back to the Winter Court per her bargain with Ash, the Winter Prince. It’s while she’s at the Winter Court that her father comes to try to get her back when he finds out that she was there willingly because of the bargain and we see him all pissed off at her and then some drama goes down and Winter and Summer declare war on each other.

While Meghan is a guest with the Winter Court, the way that Ash treats her broke my heart but I knew why he did it. While I know that it must have been pretty emotional for Meghan, I was kind of annoyed with her for not knowing why Ash was acting the way that he was even though duh, he told you why he’d be acting that way. I let Meghan slide on acting like a typical teenager because well, 1) she is and 2) her emotions were in the way.

Overall, the story for me was much more enjoyable because I wasn’t so confused. I was able to sink into this story without too much trouble and to say that I enjoyed it is putting it mildly because this story charmed the socks right off of me.

Without spoiling too much of the book, I’ll just say this. Over the course of this book, I fell in love with Ash and as much as I love Puck, I am firmly fixed in Ash’s team. I’m Team Ash all the way. I display my badge (taken from Julie Kagawa’s blog) for Team Ash.

This book was good. It was damn good. If you’re looking for a story with a lot of action, this is the story for you. If you’re looking for a story with a romance that will knock you on your butt then this is the story for you. If you’re looking for a story with a charming cast of characters then really, this is the story for you. You meet new people, you’ll get to know the old characters more and you’ll walk away from this story with a gasp on your mouth but a sigh in your heart. This book was good and you should definitely read it.

Seriously.

One last selling point for this book is Ash in a tux. Yummo.

  2. Patty,

I can see the appeal of Puck. I heart him too but my heart belongs with Ash. He’s got that wintry, cold front going on but to me, it’s smexy. =)

    Katie,

  3. Hey Madigan,
